Get Naked
By: Marq Manner
Issue: Wii Will Rock You

05Jun 2008
Long-running local rock band Naked Plywood will be releasing their new CD, “It’s About Time,” this Saturday at the Barley Street Tavern. The band has been playing around town since the early ‘80s but consider 1997 the starting point of their current sound. The band didn’t start playing live until last year. “It’s About Time” is the band’s third CD and their first two, “Amniocentecis” and “Mea Culpa,” will also be available at the CD release party. Vocalist and guitarist Tom Wilde says the band’s sound “features well-crafted, upbeat, three-and-a-half minute rock songs with catchy melodies and good lyrics.” He added, “We often work within many eclectic styles.”

Wilde says that one of the standout songs on the disc is “It’s Still Early‚” which he said “came to me after hearing a radio show about Billy Strayhorn, the jazz legend from the 1940s. I was driving to work and turned off the radio and into my head came the whole song. I finished the lyrics in three shifts that day, on breaks.” Naked Plywood will be joined by another horn player named Bill that night as local musician Bill Farber will join the band on saxophone and the flute. The show has an early start time of 8:30 p.m. and will also feature local singer-songwriter Kyle Harvey later in the evening. - The City Weekly

Bio

Naked Plywood is a true OMAHA BAND, providing a high energy antidote to the "indie" sound. Shortly after forming, we began writing our own songs, taking on whatever style would strike our fancy. After several years, the songs became "audience worthy", so we went public in 2007 playing as an "originals" house band in the infamous Omaha/Benson scene. We soon found enthusiastic fans who love us as well as our songs. A strong Nick Lowe/Elvis Costello influence is apparent in our songs although our sound is unique in and of itself. We are the real thing, Omaha's best kept secret, playing clever, interesting, songs for grown-ups who refuse to get old.
