I do understand that it is difficult to make a movie, which is based on the original story, especially best-selling comic. Mika Nakashima and Aoi Miyazaki play two main characters, both characters share same name Nana, play their role perfectly. Both actors¡¯ fashion and behavior is exactly the same as characters in a comic. I am wondering if there are plans for a sequel. - Naomi Nakayama
Tokyo, Japan, June 1, 2006¡ªToho Co., Ltd., a film-distributing agency announced a second live-action NANA movie is to be produced. Kentaro Otani will return as director and the staff and cast plan to continue their roles in the second film. Filming is set to begin in the summer of 2006.
¡®¡¯ I do understand the comic Nana has a huge fan base, so when I shot the film, I felt like that I represent one of big fans of Nana.¡± Kentaro Otani said,¡± I will not betray Nana¡¯s fans¡¯ expectation.¡¯¡¯
Nana manga by comic writer Ai Yazawa, serialized in ¡°Cookie¡± magazine, has cumulatively sold over 22 million copies in Japan. The two main characters both share the same name, Nana. Japanese popular music singer Mika Nakashima stars as Nana, the punk star, and Aoi Miyazaki, up-and-coming actress, will star as Hachi (Komatsu Nana).
The first Nana movie made it to the top spot at the Japanese box office and has remained in the top 5 for 7 weeks. The new movie will be in theatre in Japan on August 15, 2006. Throughout October NANA will be opening in numerous Asian markets including Taiwan, Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia, Brunei, Indonesia, and Thailand

"Nana" originates from the popular NANA manga series in Japan. The story describes the love, reality and dream people pursuing for: a chance encounter between two girls of the same name, "Nana," triggers a series of events and relationships. The total sales of the manga series have exceeded 1,700,000 copies in only three months. The 13th volume of the NANA manga was recently released in Japan.
The main theme from the film, "Glamorous Sky" by NANA featuring Mika Nakashima, took the number 1 spot on the Oricon charts in its first two weeks of sales and quickly sold over 450,000 copies. Additionally, another song from the film, "Endless Story" by Reira featuring Yuna Ito, took the number 2 spot on the same chart in its first week of sales. This single has already sold over 300,000 copies.
About the story
NANA is a story about two very different girls both named NANA. Nana Osaki is an aspiring vocalist for the punk/rock band named Black Stones. Blessed with a mysterious beauty and an unwavering pride, she is the stronger NANA both in love and in life. Nana Komatsu, on the other hand, is a cheery happy-go-lucky girl coming from a warm family. Her naiveness and childlike behaviors attract other characters to her. Her love life, however, is a constant soap-opera linking one boyfriend to the next.
