In mid April of this year, the Columbia community was lucky enough to host Next Best Friend on our campus. The occasion was Columbia University's 5th Annual Relay for Life event, fundraising for the American Cancer Society. As the entertainment coordinator and chair for this event, I can not speak highly enough of the generosity that this band demonstrated in donating their time to perform at the event. Their ease of flexibility in arranging a time to perform was in true altruistic spirit, making it a pleasure to work with them. Without such generosity, the event would not nearly have been as successful as it was, raising over $65,000. The crowd was cheery and upbeat due in large part to our entertainers. Next Best Friend's mixture of rock hooks and catchy choruses has gotten them considerable air time on Montgomery County Community College Radio, which I broadcasted for in the spring of '08. Their record got airplay nearly every show and was especially popular with the station staff.
