Bio

Born in New Orleans, Louisiana, Nancy Armstrong comes from a family of singers and musicians. An accomplished pianist, Nancy received formal musical training from Southern University & A&M College in Music Education. She has previously taught in the School System and is currently a vocal and piano instructor at Joyful Sounds Music Academy in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. She has served as the Minister of Music in area churches for many years, and continues to serve at the Gloryland Baptist Church of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, pastored by Dr. Rayford T. Iglehart, Sr.
Nancy has received numerable awards, certificates and recognition for her gift of song and is the upcoming recipient of the 2006 "Rising Star" Award from the Tree of Life Gospel World Music Awards which is to be held in South Africa. Nancy has been a featured performer at numerous events including the New Orleans Black Heritage Festival, the NOSA-CONN Music Festival/(The Tree of Life Gospel World Music Awards) in South Africa and will be performing in Chicago's Gospel Music Festival to be held in June 2005. She has shared the stage with a number of gospel greats including Kurt Carr, Rev. Timothy Wright, Daryl Coley, Dorinda Clark-Cole, Rance Allen, The Williams Brothers, Lisa McLendon, Murphy Pace, Donald Lawrence and new gospel sensation Micah Stampley. She has also worked with Rudolph Stansfield, Jimmy Wyatt, Margaret Dureaux and David Curry to name a few. She has also ministered before Rev. Clay Evans, Bishop Paul S. & Co-Pastor Debra Morton and Bishop Clarence McClendon. Her musical influences are Mahalia Jackson, Yolanda Adams, Aretha Franklin, Karen Clark-Sheard, Daryl Coley and many other great artists such as Donnie Hathaway, Chaka Khan, Jennifer Holiday, Kathleen Battle and Denise Graves. She has also been a featured vocalist on recordings by Stellar and Grammy nominated JDI Recording Artist, Minister Timothy Britten & the Shabach Praise Co. singing 'In Excelsis Deo' and The Gloryland Baptist Church Recording Choir singing an anointed arrangement of, 'Someone Who Cares', under Minister of Music Bobby Powell, both of Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
Nancy has been music influenced by music since the beginning of Middle School, where she began singing in festivals and competitions with the school choir, as well as solo. In High School she acted as the assistant choir director when the instructor was absent. “ My Principal used to call me out of my class to take over the choir so there would not be behavior problems for lack of an instructor for that day.” Not realizing that they were seeding into her destiny, Nancy enjoyed music but had a number of abilities, which would have afforded her many great opportunities such as sketching, painting, designing clothes and architectural structures. Nancy began playing for churches at the age of 15 where she started to discover her natural ability. In addition to her vocal and instrumental abilities, Nancy is also a songwriter and vocal arranger. She has been writing and directing music for quite some time now and says, “I was always shy in response when I had to speak, so I would write down my feelings or prayers on paper, which later led to a booklet of lyrics which inspired the album ’Just Wait’.” Her songs and vocal arrangements are also featured in the gospel musical "Between Floors," written and directed by Edward Barnes, Jr.
This singer/songwriter/pianist continues to minister in song throughout Louisiana and beyond. April 2005 marked the release of her solo debut album, entitled "Just Wait", which was produced by Jerry Henderson of J Black Productions and signed to Beautiful Music Productions, LLC, in which she is CEO and founder.
When asked what she hopes to achieve, Nancy responds, “My life has been full of mountain top and valley experiences…but overall… I count it all JOY! When others see you walking victoriously they are encouraged to stay in the race until they reach the finish line. It is working for me and I pray it does the same for others. I hope to achieve great fulfillment in my Jeremiah 29:11, God's plan for my life… so I can continuously be a blessing to the saint and an example for the sinner. Keeping in mind that we are to win souls for Kingdom building, my greatest achievement would be for my music to call people to relationship and a greater anointing in Jesus Christ."
