Nancy Chaanine

Nancy Chaanine was born in Beirut, Lebanon. Her family moved to California in 1986, then to North Carolina in 1994 and she has been there ever since.

The interest in singing and dancing began at the age of 6 years old watching Star Search and singing along with Disney Movies. At a younger age she enjoyed watching MTV and VH1 music videos. She would tape all her favorites and sing along and learn the choreography to the best dance videos. The singers she looked up to and mimicked were Mariah Carey, Whitney Houston, and Celine Dion, because of their amazing range. She would also act out and sing along to every Disney movie she owned.

Unfortunately her parents worked a lot when she was growing up so she wasn't able to take a lot of voice and dance lessons. Nancy basically learned by watching and listening to others! Growing up, her mom threw great parties where there was food, loud music and belly dancing. That's how she learned to belly dance!! Whenever there was an opportunity to dance or sing that didn’t cost her parents anything she did it. In middle school Nancy auditioned and made the dance team and played the flute. In high school she performed with the winter guard and color guard. She also sang in chorus and was asked to audition for small ensemble, which allowed her to sing and dance. During her senior year in high school she ran track, where she excelled in 100 and 300 meter hurdles. In college she attended a jazz class, a voice class, and a couple of guitar classes. Nancy graduated with a degree in business management.

At the age of 17 she was signed with John Casablanca’s modeling agency where she learned to walk the runway and do a little acting. During that time she was chosen to be a part of a huge talent convention in Dallas Texas. While attending school and working, she participated in bridal shows and hair shows, an American Eagle commercial along with their print ads, and sang at weddings and many other organizations. Nancy, along with 11 others, was selected out of 750 people to be a part of the Seventeen Magazine runway show held in Raleigh, North Carolina.

Nancy has always had a passion for the arts. She loves to watch amazing performances and high energy shows. Singing and dancing are her biggest passions and she looks forward to putting on her own concert one day. Nancy would also like to model and possibly act one day as well. She loves fashion and enjoys spending her lazy days watching movies. She also does extra work whenever possible and is constantly attending print, promotional, commercial, and singing auditions.

Nancy has worked in a few different studios with different producers over the past few years, but has recently attempted writing her own songs. She has recorded a demo with Stray Light Music Studios, but is currently doing a little writing and recording to find her own sound! Nancy loves and appreciates all genres of music and hopes to explore different styles throughout her musical career to create great music for everyone to enjoy!
