Biography

The rich cultural mix of my home, SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS, fed me for many years, and I've been nourished by diverse influences beyond the scope of one city: folk, the British invasion, American Motown and R & B, motion picture scores, and the jazz of Parker, Coltrane and Miles. I've had good mentors who have generously supported my hopeful, upbeat spirit:

Composer, producer, engineer, performer Mitchell Markham worked with me over the course of 2 years producing a collection of my originals, entitled "Critical Mass."

When Nancy Jo Glasgow and I met, what began to unfold was a collaboration of hearts, minds, and united intent: a friendship and creative partnership focused on the desire to create value in the world. (To a tune you can dance to, whenever possible.) This partnership led to the production of 4 CDs of original music, and various singles, some of which the two of us wrote together.

Col. Buster Marvin Doss, Nashville legend and country music titan, who was a long-time friend and associate of Nancy's, took me in for a series of Nashville recording sessions which provided me with the how-to-work-in-the-studio-with-the-best and the how-to-fine-tune-that-song-writing-ability education of a lifetime. I am deeply indebted to Col. Buster Doss.

Their devotion, and that of other true friends and family, keeps calling me out from my comfort zones to continue stretching me as a person and artist and to share he music that comes forth.

I believe music has an important function to bring people together, helping them overcome all differences. It stimulates, like little else, the deep bond of kinship between all human beings.

Lyrics

"What it Is, Is What it Ain't"

Written By: Nancy Glasgow/Brant Miller

What it is, is what it Ain't

1
Devil on the corner, dressed up like a saint
What it is is what it ain't
2
In a showdown with a villain that I've learned to hate
What it is is what it ain't/ What it is is what it ain't
3
Glancing at the mirror, I start feelin' faint
What it is is what it

BRIDGE
My life’s lessons about wrong and right
Showed me people aren’t all black or white

SOLO

4
In a showdown with a villain, I defy my fate
And talk until we both have no more reasons left to hate

5
Devil on the corner, dressed up like a saint
What it is is what it ain't/What it is is what it ain't
Glancing at the mirror, ain’t the mirror great?
What it is is what it ain't/ What it is is what it ain’t
What it is is what it ain’t/ What it is is what it ain't/ What it is is what it ain't
What it is is what it ain't

"Country Jazz"

Country Jazz

VERSE 1
As the moon and the sun come together as one and the anger drains from the sky
There's a goup down the way gettin' ready to play and I'm-a gonna tell-a you why
It's the big holiday of the new century, time for some razzamatazz
It's a come-on-down to the sermon mound for some real fine country jazz

B
There'll be fiddles and some saxophones, flutes from Argentina, a bodhran man from Ireland, his gal on concertina
A fellow on the sitar who hails from Katmandu
Some cats from way down under are gonna be there too
And I can't wait to hear them play a dozen didgeridoos

Verse 2
When you hear what is said gonna blow out your head, gonna make your motor go wild
No place you can hide, just come outside, every man, every woman and child
It's a for-every-one, it's a big ball of fun, more good than anyone has
It's a come-on-down to the sermon mound for some real fine country jazz

B
It will be a big party and everybody will be there
A picnic for the simple folk and for some a gala affair
You can wear your very finest but no one really cares
Cause it ain't about what you got to flaunt or what anybody has
It's a come-on-down to the sermon mound for some real fine country jazz

Verse 3
Chicken fried, Danish pies, African ice cream
Cous-cous, hummos, baba ganoush, Chinese lima beans
Swedish meatballs, Spanish omelettes, like you've never seen
You'll think you died, went to heaven, or woke up in a dream

B
There'll be fiddles and some saxophones, flutes from Argentina, a bodhran man from Ireland, his gal on concertina
A fellow on the bagpipes who's Scottish through and through
Those cats from way down under are gonna be there too
And I can't wait to hear them play a dozen didgeridoos

Verse 4
As the moon and the sun come together as one and the anger drains from the sky
There's a goup down the way gettin' ready to play and I'm-a gonna tell-a you why
It's the big holiday of the new century, time for some razzamatazz
It's a come-on-down to the sermon mound for some real fine country jazz
It's a come-on-down, every one in town for some real fine country jazz
Country jazz!

Spirit of America

Written By: Nancy Jo Glasgow/ Brant Miller

They heard of a place
Where all could be free
A place of compassion
Far across the sea

The coming wasn't easy
Emotional stress was great
They left behind friends and family

They came with nothing except hope
The need to survive
A pocketful of dreams
The desire to be free

This diversity of cultures
Is what America is made of
Embracing all people
In the spirit of equality
This diversity of cultures
Is what America is made of
Embracing all people
In the spirit of equality

Spirit of America
Spirit of Compassion
Spirit of Diversity
Where Everyone is Free

"I Still Live"

Written By: Brant Miller

Verse 1
They say that a good soldier never says a word
He follows orders silently, I've heard
But listening to the people here, the grieving and betrayed
I hear my soldier calling from the grave:

Chorus
"I still live in the justice that you fight for
"I still live through the courage in your heart
"I live in your strong united stand
"Calling for the leaders of the land..I Still Live"

Verse 2
They say that a good soldier keeps his whereabouts unknown
With enemies alert and on the prowl
But looking at the people here, friends of justice all around
It's obvious he's here with us, standin' proud

Chorus
"I still live in the justice that you fight for
"I still live through the courage in your heart
"I live in your words and in your deeds
"Calling for the truth that we so badly need"

Bridge
There's no end for me or you, We live forever
And he lives in us, strong as ever

Chorus Out
"I still live in the justice that you fight for
"I still live through the courage in your hearts
"I live through your strong united stand
"Calling for the leaders, the leaders of this land
"I still live, and I live forever
"I live, right here next to you
"I ain't goin' away, No, I am here to stay, yeah
"Because of you and what you do
"I Still Live"

EVERY LIFE IS SACRED

Written By: Nancy Glasgow & Brant Miller

verse 1
Every life is sacred, worthy of respect
Nothing more important for me to recollect
Not one soul's forgotten when I kneel to pray
So when you ask me, that's what I say

verse 2
Lost my understanding, lost my memory
Hungry, greedy, turned my back on humanity
But now there's not one soul forgotten when I kneel to pray
So when you ask me, that's what I say

bridge
My mentor came to awaken me
Her mercy shook me to my knees

refrain
it's time to remember the true self
before it's too late

verse 1 & out
Every life is sacred, worthy of respect
Nothing more important for me to recollect
Not one soul's forgotten now when I kneel to pray
So when you ask me, (when you ask me)
That's what I say [repeat & out]

Stop the War Machine

Written By: Brant Miller

Stop the War Machine

It's a beautiful world
Life is precious
Nothing more precious
Than a human being

Stop the war machine
Stop before we all have had it
Stop the war machine
Before they kill us all and all our dreams

I am for life, I'm for human dignity
War's the destroyer of life, shatters the heart of humanity

Stop the war machine
Stop before we all have had it
Stop the war machine
Before they kill us all and all our

Don't listen to their lies
They never pay a price
They set the thing in motion
But make no sacrifice
They profit from it all
You want to know evil? There it is, plain as day!

Before every mother grieves
Before every brother bleeds
Before those controlled by greed
From their heartlessness decree
That they've started World War III
Stop them and their damn machine

Stop the war machine Stop before we all have had it
Stop the war machine Before they've killed us all and all our dreams
Stop the war, before we've all had it, stop the war machine
Stop the war machine, stop the war machine
Before they kill us all and all our dreams

Ain't Gonna Be Like That

Written By: Brant Miller

When they abuse somebody, they abuse me
When they misuse somebody, I'm sure that I could never be like that

I ain't gonna be, I ain't gonna be, I ain't gonna be like that
I decided long ago

Packed with ammunition, filled up with fury
With a deadly vision, I'm sure that I could never see like that

I ain't gonna be, I ain't gonna be, I ain't gonna be like that
I decided long ago

Ain't gonna be like that, Ain't gonna be like that
Ain't gonna be like that No No
Ain't gonna be like that, Ain't gonna be like that
Decided long ago

I will not become an imposter, let them turn me into a monster
Same kind of a monster that terrorized our souls

Won't be like that - I ain't gonna be like that
Won't be like that - I decided long ago
(I ain't gonna be) I ain't gonna be like that
(I ain't gonna be) I ain't gonna be like that
(I ain't gonna be) I ain't gonna be like that, I decided long ago

Medicine Wheel

Written By: Brant Miller/ Nancy Jo Glasgow/ Dawna Wright

In the great wheel we live forever
Round and round we heal together
On earth, under the sky, from this Law no one can hide

Ooh, A-Ho! Hey Hey Around the medicine wheel we go
We laugh we lose we learn we grow

To the spirit we surrender so our homeland we can mend her
It strengthens us to look inside
To move beyond our pain and pride
We move beyond our pride

Oooh, A-ho! Hey Hey Around the medicine wheel we go
We stop we love we learn we know

Recitation: There's a beautiful sound pulsing eternal through all creation
Equally through all people
How could I not treasure this precious jewel in you?

From the pathway of past sorrow, we now face a new tomorrow

Ooh, A-Ho! Hey Hey Around the medicine wheel we go
We laugh we lose we learn we grow
Oooh, A-ho! Hey Hey Around the medicine wheel we go
We stop we love we learn we know

Around the wheel we go, around the wheel we go
Around the wheel we go, around the wheel, 'round the medicine wheel

Full Meal Deal

Written By: Brant Miller

Highway 90, close to home
Little diner where I go
Sal serves a mighty cup of joe
And he knows me well

Knows when I am feeling down
Too discouraged to rebound
Tells me jokes until my voice says again
"Sal, my dear old friend,

"Give me the full meal deal
Or what's my livin' for?
If not to pull myself up, try again
Before I go out the door
Give me the full meal deal
I gotta see this through
I'm gonna leave no stone unturned
If that's what I gotta do"

Woman that I want to know
Comes in and says a big hello
How ya been, whatcha know
I guess this is my cue

I tell her I'm hard to control
Less concerned with sex than soul
With that in mind how bout we go
And see what we can see

"Give me the full meal deal
Or what's my livin' for?
If not to pull myself up, try again
Before I go out the door
Give me the full meal deal
I gotta see this through
I'm gonna leave no stone unturned
If that's what I gotta do"
