Bio

Nansady Keita is one of the great djembe-folas (djembe players) to emerge from West Africa in recent years. A dynamic musician and explosive performer, Nansady's powerful djembe solos offer levels of clarity, precision and sheer speed that rival the most accomplished players in the world today. Nansady began drumming at a very young age in a rural Malinke village in the Hamana Region of Guinea, West Africa, where the djembe drum and its orchestra were born and where centuries-old African rhythms and songs are part of the fabric of daily life.

Today, Nansady performs regularly at major world-music events in Great Britain, Europe and Scandanavia. He appeared at the WOMAD Festival in England in 2009 and completed a ten city tour of Japan in 2008. Nansady played percussion on the motion-picture soundtrack for Warner Bros.’ “Blood Diamond" and on five highly acclaiimed recordings by his uncle, world-reknowned Djembe Master, Famoudou Konate, among others. He has released two CDs himself, Farafina Sangbaralla (2010) and Hamana Kalu (2008).

Nansady will be in North America in summer 2011 for a four city teaching and performance tour. During this time, he will perform in the U.S. and Canada with the M'Boray Nani Band, an ethnically diverse group of musicians from Guinea and the U.S. who engage audiences of all ages through the energy and joy of traditional Guinean percussion music.
