NAPALMA
press release

Beats and melodies from eclectic electronic programming, vocals from the exotic East Africa, a hard working horn and a blitzkrieg of hypnotic drums. From these elements, computer, djembés, trumpet and voice, arises NAPALMA.

Initially conceived as a seminal carnival percussion group, NAPALMA was founded in february 2004 in Vitoria, Espirito Santo, Brazil. After extensive experimentation with electronic music, the addition of a programmer and a lead singer, NAPALMA was all set and ready to go.
All of the band members have been active in the local music scene for quite a while. And they are:

Ivo Maia, lead singer, born in Mozambique is a non ofifcial ambassador to his homeland. Brings with him jamaican influences, traditional songs and dialects from East Africa and portuguese and english.

Cid Travaglia e Rafael Jabah at the djembés, are the initial founders of Napalma. Their job is to ensure everyone is shaking it. The two drums formula for instant carnivals.

Paulo Bolzan, aka Carranca, is the responsible for the electronic programming. A previous rock’n roll background leads him to a healthy disrespect for the electronic music rules. Borrows from drum´n´ bass, house, hip hop, electro, techno, ragga, dub and whatever comes his way.

Performing energetic shows that defy the more obvious musical classifications, NAPALMA is not only an electronic music live act or a world music band. It’s all that and more. Due to it’s simple on stage requirements and format flexibility, NAPALMA has played at the most unusual venues, and to the most diverse crowds, like:

Brazil – Over 100 presentations in 15 cities, 4 brazilian states, a 20 shows Tour in Trancoso and Arraial D’Ajuda (BA), show at Circo Voador (RJ) and Renault Speed Beats (ES).

Europe - 42 shows in Portugal and Holand, including the Boom Festival (bigest festival of e-music in Europe).

Africa - Tour 1 – From december 2005 to february 2006, a 20 presentations in Mozambique and South Africa, including the Vodafone New Years Eve Party in Inhambane.
