Bio

In My Lifetime

Born and bred in an atmosphere where music was as normal as breathing, the likes of the Temptations, Marvin Gaye, James Brown and all things soulful resonated. The era known as The Golden Age would be an influence to permeate through every thought, melody, or lyric to come. Kiara Nasaya Mitchell, born to parents Ronald and Phyllis Mitchell, was in a way fated to fall into the everlasting clutches of music. A student of instrumentation through brass and woodwind alike, once premature, knowledge gained would soon play a vital role in shaping projects to come.

Hailing from Atlanta, Ga., as the youngest of six girls, Kiara had no problem being distinguished from that of her older siblings. For her, music was primary. While they saw it as a hobby, at an early age it was evident that Kiara had a special love for rhythm and melody.
“I remember the first time I heard Murder Was The Case… It scared me, not because I was young or afraid of what was being said, but because it painted a picture. I was able to visualize the words, and that had never happened before.”
“Music had always evoked emotion, but I was naive to the fact that words could beckon images.” This moment of epic proportion would substantiate future decisions of an artist in search of self.

Citing pioneers like Snoop, Tupac Shakur, Salt -N- Pepa, Jay Z, and Da Brat as some of her influences, the young artist was fortunate to have a blueprint to ease uncertainty. Although her struggle was unparalleled to theirs, Kiara endeavored odds faced by the likes of predestination. Facing the unfamiliar in public transports, classrooms, cafeterias, any place where a “cipher” could be had, it was. A writ of passage that was once insurmountable, had now become elementary.

Continuing higher education, Kiara would be soon introduced to a group that mirrored the love she felt for her craft. Collectively they would go on to create works that allotted the young emcee room to flourish. Partnering with one in particular, NK, collaborative efforts by the pair would give birth to her first solo project. Achieving more awareness of self through every phase of inception, she would in time be defined by a single name. Nasaya…meaning Miracle of God; to music.
