"JD Set Cyprus Ave June 06"

Nassau presented a polished set of psychedelic pop numbers that brought the evening to a deliriously woozy climax. They are blessed with an enigmatic frontman in George Madden, whose Stipe-style demagoguery would have been misplaced had it not been reinforced with some blinding tunes. Nassau were by far the most refined and melodic band of the night. A throwback to the blissed-out shoegazing college rock of the early ‘90s, with lyrical dexterity to match, the band’s euphoric ‘See Me’ and the swooning guitars of ‘Out Since Work’ washed over the audience with a sumptuous grace.
It’s hardly a sound that will set tongues wagging, but it had more than enough romance, rococo rock embellishments and warmth to make it thoroughly rewarding. For Nassau at least, the omens look good.

Bio

Any number of factors can dramatically alter a bands sound, ranging from varying musical influences to the addition of new members. This is certainly true of NASSAU.
Formed in Cork by Pop, George and Jim in 2000, NASSAU proceeded to spend as much time at finding a name (Fiction, Exit, The Angelus) as they did on writing material. Upon arrival of drummer Pat D their sound started to take shape and resulted in the recording of Les Enfant (EP 2001). Ian Burke joined the band shortly after on guitar and in December 2002 they recorded their 2nd EP The Hand of Hope
Since then NASSAU have played some high profile gigs such as, O2 New Band Competition 2003 Cork heat (which they won) and The Hard Working Class Heroes Festival September 2004 in Dublin. The band is currently recording with Graham Finn (ex Bass Odyssey, Emperors of Ice Cream) and at this point has an album worth of material recorded.
NASSAUs sound is guitar driven with a constant sense of melody and a strong emphasis on lyrics. Their songs range from the darkest corners of heartbreak, to the harsh early morning hangover, to the wide open plains of summer love.
This wide spectrum guarantees to keep you listening and will occasionally make you want to dance.
