"Interview with Jon Nelson of Nasty Habits"

As a huge fan of the Venice crossover scene of the late 80's early 90's, I knew that guitarist Jon Nelson had previously played in Suicidal Tendencies and The Brood, but it wasn’t until I picked up the 2009 Nasty Habits album, ‘Skinned Alive’, that I fully realised just what a talented guy he is – hearing his guitar work and vocals on this amazing Jimi Hendrix meets Suicidal Tendencies masterpiece blew me away.

Reading that ‘Skinned Alive’ has been re-recorded and is being re-released on the TMG label, I contacted Jon, requesting an interview for All About The Rock… - All about the Rock

“Web: www.reverbnation.com/nastyhabits1 Nasty Habits is an interesting find because they have a very organic old school live sound that is not heard by too many rock bands these days. Listening to these guys made me feel I was at a live outdoor concert like Bonnaroo. Fronted by guitarist, Jon Nelson, Nasty Habits brings a kick a** first and take names later that is sure to get your blood pumping. Nasty Habits open up their collective of songs with "Gethsamane," a song that bears the incredible electric rock guitar leads we've come to know from Jon's work with the Chili Peppers and Suicidal Tendencies. Another favorite, "I Don't Mind" Jon and the band's musicianship is incredible. From electric guitar to the bass to the drums, this song rocks out. Also, Overall, this project is pretty good and the only drawback I found is that the mix on some of the songs need work. MUSICAL GOAL: “ The music has a message, and we have a mission.” – ~ Review by: Senseitional”

"Nasty Habits; This band has the sound you are looking for.."

"Nasty Habits from Los Angeles, California have got the blues, punk, funk, metal, and classic rock sound you're looking for with songs like "Because she loves me" that makes you want to groove, and "Do what thou wilst", a tasty rock treat. You can hear the passion Nasty Habits holds together as a band, and you can tell they all have eclectic tastes in music. This makes for a truly mind blowing record cause of how tight the band members are, and how devoted to music these guy's really are. From the amazing guitar solo on " By him i'm known", to the punk sound of " Caving in". This record is all over the place. Talented, eclectic, and just a menagerie of amazement, I consider this the record of the year so far. A mind fuck of a good listen. Purchase this album and you won't be disappointed. It's just that tasty. YUM! "

Bio

Nasty Habits, a lyrically mind blowing, face blistering potpourri of sound. A sort of Mr. Toads wild ride; from beginning to end. What led up to the formation of this hard rock power trio is the interesting part. Native Californian, Jon Nelson formerly had played lead guitar and backing vocals in the notorious Venice punk-metal band, Suicidal Tendencies, and after a lengthy tour and songwriting collaboration period, Jon had played for a short time with local friend, Michael Balzary (Flea) in The Red hot Chili Peppers while recording and touring in his own band The Brood. Later some ideas came to mind worth pursuing, using musical influences like Black Sabbath, Jimi Hendrix, Beatles, and Johnny Cash, ideas of victory over inner doubt and life changing experiences were enough to round up a couple of fellow musicians to create some passionate music and a new project. Jon summoned bassist, and old time friend, Stephan "Peabody" Klein (Manhole, The Wretched) and Soon after they recruited Justin Pace (Agent X) on drums. Combined, these three musicians have a world of experience behind them and many great stories to tell. "Some of the best song writing I have heard in recent years". Nasty Habits members have shared the stage in the past with a roster of major headlining acts and have been a great support/opening band in recent years. With a new energy and a new look, a standard independent release campaign, their label is convinced these guy's have a promising year ahead. Nasty Habits- Quote, "Everybody's got one". The debut LP "Material (with benefits) is being released on TMG indie label, and is due for a October 8th, 2013 release.
