Natalie Claro’s music is a menagerie of influences - her full length debut Disconnect is a fluid collection of songs equal parts garage, singer-songwriter, and folk, with additional nods to electronic R&B and classical piano composition. It may sound like a lofty undertaking for a single record, but Claro’s strength comes primarily from her ability to channel a variety of genres into a cohesive, exciting sound, one united by her explosive vocal performances. Throughout Disconnect, Claro shows that she’s equally comfortable hollering with an acoustic guitar on “Mountains” (streaming) as she is interpolating elements of Für Elise on “Interlude The Disconnect,” while still finding time to croon against colder, moodier synths on “Blood” and album closer “Poor Boy.” Today’s musical landscape frequently pushes artists into comfortable shticks and niches, and Natalie Claro’s decision to circumvent the norm is fearless and admirable.

Claro will perform at the upcoming Women That Rock show, supporting Starbender alongside Scarlet Sails and Astra The 22s. Until then, stream Disconnect below. -Connor Beckett McInerney (@b_ck_tt) - Deli Magazine

Natalie Claro - Baby Bug
Natalie Claro is a driven, passionate and charismatic songstress and performer whose music is a striking concoction of alternative rock with a diverse blend of influences, ranging from Haley Williams and Zella Day to twenty one pilots or Queen, just to mention a few.

Her latest single, “Baby Bug” is immediately striking on the grounds of Natalie’s powerful and energetic vocal approach. Her lyricism is intimate and personal, yet extremely direct and easy to relate to. “Baby Bug” is a direct and spontaneous track that reminds me of that feeling of wanting to leave your background and situation in pursuit of something better. This is a song about knowing you’re better than that high school bully or that small town in the middle of nowhere that just does not understand your values. Through her masterfully executed performances and earnest vocal hooks, Natalie set out to transform a deep train of thoughts into a catchy, appealing and memorable song that won’t get out of your head so easily. Natalie Claro, a teenage songstress who won the Best of the Bay Readers’ Poll pick in two categories in 2015 – Best Local Singer/Songwriter and Best Pop Act – and is holding a red carpet release party for new single, “Stumble,” at Hard Rock on Saturday evening. It’s so exciting to hear someone bringing real artistry to pop music. Natalie Claro reminds me of some of the female artists from the ’90s, lots of substance and plenty of musical skill too. Her latest song “Baby Bug” is terrific, and her vocal quirks add uniqueness to a track that is already well written.

Natalie enters a crowded field here, competing against a slew of artists and bands that all come equipped with clean, arresting hooks, a sense of economy, and a belief in crisp production. It’s in this musical landscape increasingly defined by bold, innovative, and powerful female pop stars, that she is daring enough to take on the challenge.

Natalie Claro generated buzz with her previous single, “Stumble”, for a reason. She’s lucky enough to boast a powerful voice with a smart timbre, equal parts thrilling and emotional. But like any great tool, her natural gift means little if not wielded properly.

On “Baby Bug” it establishes her as an avant-garde alternative pop princess. Rather than an all-out assault on screaming synths, Natalie’s music revels in its dynamism. The track divides itself between simplistic string and piano arrangements, and then gradually is filled with fully-charged vocals, robust percussion and an almost cinematic rise in keyboards and melody.

The lyricism can be downright heartrending, proving that the songwriter is filled with limitless potential. “Baby Bug” is certainly an impressive outing. It’s brimming with authenticity and is clearly indicative of a budding star.

There are brief parts indicative of brilliance, and others that show that Natalie has an astounding amount of patience and restraint, and one can be sure that this young Tampa recording artist, songwriter, producer and multi-instrumentalist, will have plenty of great things ahead for her musically.

Natalie Claro who has released two singles and is currently working on the third, developed her songwriting skills at 10 years old. Growing up in a music-filled house has influenced her ability. From Michael Jackson and Billy Joel to Twenty One Pilots, Zella Day and Kanye; her influences are a diverse mix.

Taking the best of all these influences plus her own alternative pop musings and meshing it together, she has created a truly great single with “Baby Bug”. - Jamsphere

As most can probably tell, IMPOSE deals with an array of artists and immense talent every single day. It can get overwhelming at times as we try to make sense of it all and bring you the best music we can find on the web, focusing specifically on up-and-comers so that we can continue to be a fun place for people to discover new music. Recently, we got a little package in the mail that was incredible sweet, and it displayed the well-roundedness of the artist who sent it. She created a zine to go along with her self-produced EP, and we’re floored by the work she has done.

World, meet Natalie Claro. She’s a 17 year old genre-bending “alt-rock” singer-songwriter with the pipes to prove she’s not going anywhere anytime soon. Her latest 5-track atychiphobia EP is set to release on December 10th via SmallDog Records. But we’ve got some reasons why you need to nab that preorder now.

First track “Baby Bug” gives a powerful introduction to Claro as a person, detailing pain she felt as a younger, bullied woman coming into her own. It’s both full of strength and also delicate, allowing you to see many facets of her personality. We’ll jot it down as this generation’s “Beautiful” (Christina Aguilera). “Mountains” gives us a peak into Claro’s thoughts on government, but it also shines a light on her acoustic abilities. There’s almost a twang to her voice as she belts out the lyrics, fast paced as if she’s pressed for time. “Shower of Roses” takes on a different vibe, slower, smoother. Her vocals come across as emotional and raspy in places, devouring your soul.

“Daisy” – while it is at its core a rock track – once again finds itself teetering on the country side of things. And that might be the most remarkable part of it all, as so many wonderful country singers (Dolly Parton, et al.) paved the way for rock as we know it. There is a hard, raw feel to it that makes the listener feel like they’re a badass, wandering the streets with a “don’t fuck with me” attitude.

She rounds out the EP with a song that departs entirely from its predecessors in terms of sound. She continues to amaze with her ability to create and perform in different genres, as “My Calling, The Door” has a stand out caribbean vibe to it. As she searches for her passion, we’re incredibly inspired by her narrative.

The term “atychiphobia” translates directly from Greek to “the abnormal, unwarranted, and persistent fear of failure.” While we are all very privy to that horrifying feeling, we must admit that Claro need not hold onto that, as she progresses into her own as a woman. atychiphobia really makes you forget that she is still 17 years old, and she has talent far beyond her years. This work is art. - Impose Magazine

Bio

Natalie Claro, known as “the small girl with a big voice”, is an alternative singer/songwriter who produces music with live, physical instrumentation. The virtuoso has obtained piano, guitar, violin, drums, and ukulele all under her belt in order to fully compose and record a song single-handedly from start to finish. Claro has been writing lyrics since the age of 5, and over the years has created musical poetry that addresses intense topics like politics, existential crisis, mental health, confidence, and more. But what will really resonate with each heart she touches are her live performances; with booming and powerful vocals, crowd surfing, cartwheels, drum solos, and more, she truly believes in an interactive, sweat-inducing experience.

Her resume is quite impressive, having supported bands such as Zac Farro's Halfnoise, Hunny, Grizfolk and PUBLIC's Sweet Lemonade Tour and has played at music festivals such as Nashville's Howl At The Moon and Austin, TX's SXSW. She successfully completed her own run named "The Invasion Tour" in summer of 2017 and "Duende: The Tour" for six months straight in 2018.

"Claro isn’t afraid to turn up the 'GAIN' knob and get a little loud. Even though pianos and acoustics define the instrumentals of some tracks, when she plugs in her electric guitar and strums away, she belts out some impressive runs and overall vocal talent and range in a way that could only be manifested by a leather boot stomping the ground." - Mieux Magazine

"She really makes you forget that she is [18] years old, and has talent far beyond her years. This work is art." - Impose Magazine

It appears the world of Alternative music agrees too, with almost every song on Spotify's Discover weekly and over 1 Million total streams, her music is making it's way up the ladder.

Not only is her music a shock, but her performances linger in the mind of those present forever. Drum solos, cartwheels, stunts, backbends, Claro not only belts into the microphone before her with fiery emotion, but she does it all while truly giving the crowd a show to remember forever.
