Natalie Velasquez

My music has both latin and jazz elements blended with a strong funk rhythm. This makes for a very unique approach that is an easy listen for anybody. I connect my lyrics to the conscious thoughts in my mind; the subconscious comes out all at once, and is then organized into a song. My band members are friends I've met up to this point; in dividuals that understand the language and flow of music. My biggest influences are Radiohead, Jimi Hendrix, Elliot Smith, Heitor Villa-lobos, and Los Visconti (and Argentine duo) as the list continues to grow endlessly. I'm made of the same skin and bone as any human, and started from the same beginning blocks as any given musician. What sets me apart is my own particular musical inerpretation that comes across in the songs I put together. I started playing guitar when I was 10 years old, and was taught by my grand father whose roots and heritage go back to Colombia. I grew up to old Spanish guitar duets and vallenato which is a typical colombian music genre. Life then offered many oppurtunites to expand my mind: I studied under a UNT guitar professor, played with a Mariachi band, jammed with musicians of all types of genres, and put together my own 3 hour show not too long ago at Banter, a local coffee house. My story is just now beginning;I try to not get too ahead of myself when telling it.
