"Concert of New Music at the Thalia at Symphony Space"

Nataliya Medvedovskaya, whose piano performance in the October benefit concert was one of the standout moments, presented four sections from her piece Pantomimes. Humerous and evocative, and bearing the titles Alarm in an Anthill, Waltz of the Poisonous Mushrooms, Tiptoeing Invisible Beings and Tango of Octopi, these charming numbers were illuminated by the superb playing of clarinettist Adam Berkowitz, performing at various times on B-flat, E-flat and A clarinets, and the always impressive pianism of the composer.

Bio

Nataliya Medvedovskaya ,a composer,songwriter and concert pianist , was born on October 2nd , 1974 ,in Saint Petersburg,Russia. She has been composing from 6 years old.Graduated with a double major from the Saint Petersburg Conservatory, where her composition teacher was Sergei Slonimsky and her piano teacher was Tatyana Kravchenko. Received both of her diplomas at the International Piano Competition "Young Virtuosi" (1989, Czech Republic), one of them awarded for "culture of performance, musicality, and deep understanding of music." Her compositions were broadcasted nationally throughout Russia.

Since 2003, she has been living, composing and performing in and out of NYCity.

Her compositions won first prize at the 1995 International Composers Competition of the Gartow Foundation, held in Saint Petersburg, second prize in the composition category at the International Competition "Golden Channukia" (2005, Berlin), Honor Award at the 2006 Great American Song Contest and Honorable Mentions from 11 Unisong International Song Contest , 14 Billboard Song Contest , and �Song of the Year � International Song Contest.

Her String Quartet No.1 has been performed by the Saint Petersburg String Quartet since 1994 in a number of U.S. cities receiving glowing reviews in the Los Angeles Times, the Washington Post, St.Paul Edition, and the Charleston DailyMail. The Quartet was performed at the Mohawk Trial Concerts (2006) , Music Mountain Summer Festival (2005) ,and was broadcast by WQXR.

Her String Quartet # 2 premierred at the Albuquerque Music Festival (New Mexico,June,2007) and at the Museum of Fine Arts(St.Petersburg ,FL, June 2007).

Her compositions have been featured at www.mvyradio.com, the "Eartaste of the Day" Review of Eartaster Sampler # 4, Fresh Music Express Radio Podcast and the Noizepunk & Krooner Shows at www.kalvos.org/nkshows.html .

In 2007 she became a member of ASCAP (Association of Composers, Authors and Publishers).
At the 2006 International Clarinet Convention in Atlanta, Georgia, she performed her commissioned six-movement suite for clarinet and piano, "Pantomimes."
In 2004 she composed and recorded three soundtracks for the American film "I Will Avenge You, Iago!"

She has performed solo as well as with various singers and instrumentalists in different genres in prestigious venues, including debuts in Carnegie Weill Recital Hall, Steinway Hall, NY Public Library, and Austrian cultural Forum. She performs new, contemporary music as a member of the New York Composers Circle, to honorable acclaim of the "New York Stringer" Magazine.

Recently recorded a piano performance for the Mapleshade Records label for the newly released CD entitled: "Rachmaninov, The Impassioned Songwriter."(mapleshaderecords.org)She is also recording a solo piano CD of the Mozart program, as well as a CD of her own compositions for Mapleshade Records.

The world premiere of her "First snow" for oboe,bassoon,violin, and piano will be presented at the An Die Music Series in Baltimor,MD,on February 22nd.She was also recently selected to perform her songs at the Singer/Songwriter Cape May Showcase(March 2009).
