"Natalya to Bring Hope to the People"

Finding young talent in Jamaica is always a blessing. One such talent hails from St Mary. Her name is Natalya Marilyn Mothersill. As a Taurian, Natalya loves to sing and listen to great music.

She told The STAR "I started singing professionally in 2007, but I could always sing. I was always that little girl singing at church and other functions."

Natalya says from a very tender age she knew of her singing abilities and she is grateful that she will be getting a break soon.

"I must say that the first time my song was played on the radio, I was so elated," she said.

At age 24, she is currently working with Impressive Music Entertainment, a new company comprised of youngsters like herself. As a spiritual person, she intends to write music that will bring back hope to the people.

"Right now fear is crippling the society and I believe that fear is a deadly disease," she said.

Musical dreams

She also told the STAR of her dreams.

"I'd want to work with artistes like Tessanne Chin, Etana, Queen Ifrica, Taurus Riley and Busy Signal."

"In five years' time, I see myself in the music business, having completed two albums and having gone on many tours. This is not a dream. I know I am going to evolve and grow in the business," Natalya said confidently.

Natalya promises to produce excellent music that will transcend genres. "I want to sing all genre of songs such as gospel and even jazz and blues."

Shortly after that, Natalya did two other songs, “I should have known” on the Overcome Riddim by Asani Morrison and “I can't believe” on the Sea Breeze Riddim by Mark Pinnock from Natural Bridge.

“Music is love in search of a word” - Sidonie Gabrielle.

The word in a name…Natalya!! The Jamaican born singing sensation is living her dream and taking as many steps possible to make it become her reality. Originally from the parish of St. Mary, Natalya’s love for singing and performing developed in her formative years singing on her church choir and at school events. In a bid to pursue higher education, Natalya migrated from her parish and relocated in Kingston where she attained her Bachelors of Science Degree in Psychology at the U.W.I Mona Campus. Having achieved all she has, she still was not fulfilled, as her passion was yet to be realized. In 2007, the journey began and Natalya did her first recording on the renowned Dreams Riddim produced by Christopher Birch and recorded the song “Is this a Dream” engineered by Douglas Flannigan of Stage One Productions. The song was an independent project that made it to the airwaves in the December of that year and is still being played. Since then, Natalya has been working even harder to be recognized for the talented and wonderful spirit that she is. In 2008, she worked with Duane Edwards from I.M.E where she collaborated with artiste J-won on his single “Summer Love”. She also recorded “Can’t Believe” and “I Should Have Known” in 2008; these songs demonstrate her vocal strength, clarity and melody. Natalya’s love for music is inspired by various artistes and sounds. She has a love for Jazz and Blues, Roots Rock Reggae, Rhythm and Blues, Pop among others. Artistes that have inspired her sound include, Stevie Wonder, Toni Braxton, Whitney Houston, Ken Booth, Gregory Isaacs, Bob Marley, Queen Ifrica, Cherine Anderson and a plethora of other artistes, both old and new. Currently, Natalya is working with the colorful and multi-talented producer Mario “Mad Scientist” Lawrence. In 2009, she recorded the single “I’m Yours”. Natalya urges everyone to stay tuned to their local radio stations, television stations and print media as she continues on her musical journey. Natalya has explored the likes of ballads, dancehall, lover’s rock reggae and dancehall pop in her career thus far and is excited about new frontiers and adding to the archive of quality music and entertainment that Jamaicans have produced. “It’s my dream that I wish to share with you, please…journey with me…together there are endless possibilities.”
