Bio

Nate Johnson & the Keepers play American music. There is an arc of consistent aesthetics starting from the early Blues and traditional New Orleans musics, winding up through Jazz, R&B, Rock & other popular styles. The Keepers cover it all, blending songs of different eras together with original music to create a cohesive sound. You’ll find yourself singing along to some of your favorite tunes, some of your grandparents’ favorite tunes, and digging on some new stuff you’ve never even heard before.

Nate Johnson has been playing Saxophone and leading bands since the late 1980s. He attended the IU School of Music and William Paterson College, studying under David Baker, Steve Wilson, Frank Glover and Rufus Reid. Nate is comfortable performing in a wide range of musical settings, having extensive experience in Blues, R&B, Jazz, Trad, Rock, C&W, Pops Orchestras, Brass Bands and Latin American and Caribbean styles. Although Nate sang in choirs and as a soloist as a kid, he didn’t pursue voice professionally until very recently. He is featured prominently on lead and background vocals on the Nate Johnson & the Keepers debut EP, released in Summer 2012 on Bidness Records. Nate will be featured on the upcoming Better Bidness Bureau album “TBA”, as well as an upcoming albums by Ritmos Unidos and Jeff Cannon. Other ongoing band projects Nate is involved in include Ritmos Unidos, The Ron Kadish Quartet and The Gyrogenics Ensemble.
