"On the Horizon - Nathan Burris"

“The country music horizon is filled with talented entertainers - from contemporary to traditional - all vying to be the “next big thing.” Like many Oklahomans before him such as Vince Gill and Garth Brooks, Nathan Burris is setting his sights on Nashville and the country music arena. With the release of his debut CD, Oklahoma Sunrise, he is already garnering compliments from country music fans as well as those on Nashville’s legendary Music Row.

Born and raised in Tuttle, Oklahoma, Nathan first learned guitar at age ten, but it wasn’t until his time in college that his interest turned to passion. He started writing songs, his first being about his Dad, who died in 2006. Finally finding his voice, music shot to the forefront of his life. He began performing around Oklahoma City and throughout Oklahoma, receiving the highest of compliments when Lauren Nelson, Miss America 2007, declared, "Nathan Burris is awesome! Keep an eye out for him!"

During this time, Nathan also caught the attention of producer, Curly Corwin, who saw in Nathan a talent and ability that could take him beyond the Southwest region, commenting, “The sun is definitely rising on Nathan Burris’ career!” After meeting with Curly, Nathan was ready to take that next step - recording an album in Nashville - a desire that had been burning inside him for awhile.

After selecting four of Nathan’s self-penned songs and one of Curly’s for the project, the search was on to find songs to complete the album. While in Nashville, songs came flooding in from some of Nashville’s finest writers - a nice problem for a new artist to have - making the final selection difficult. Nathan remembers the first time he heard “Dry County,” commenting, “It was a no brainer. Undeniable. We had to cut it! And I like performing it too, it’s fun!” That Wynn Varble song, as well as songs by Scotty Emerick, Troy Jones, Donny Kees, and Paul Overstreet made the final cut.

When speaking about country music, Nathan notes, “It speaks to me in a way that nothing else can really.” And his own music is a reflection of that comment, because whether he’s singing a drinkin’ song like “Whiskey 101” or a deeper song like “Wrinkle In The Road,” he is captivating listeners. Fired up about sharing his brand of authentic country music with fans around the world, Nathan continues on this musical ride of a lifetime - and this is definitely the “sunrise” of an exciting career for Nathan Burris!

Bio

Born and raised in the small town of Tuttle, Oklahoma, Nathan Burris has never been mistaken for anything other than country. Following in the footsteps of fellow Oklahomans, such as Vince Gill, Blake Shelton, Garth Brooks and Toby Keith, he has taken his God-given talent and carved out his own signature brand of pure and authentic country music.
Although Nathan learned to play the guitar at age ten, it was sports that captured most of his attention during those early years. However, after his graduation from Tuttle High School, his focus soon changed. While in college, he found himself trying to balance a heavy workload and at the same time struggled to find his passion - so Nathan turned to music and songwriting. He comments, “Writing was an outlet for me to escape reality. I lost my dad in 2006 and the first song I had ever written began to pour out, and it was about him."
From there, he began recording acoustic song demos on his computer, which he later played for his mother. He notes, "She sat there with her mouth open and just stared...she then asked me what I was going to do with these songs. I took that as an opportunity to tell her I wanted to drop out of school and pursue a career in music." At that point, his musical journey was at the forefront of his life and he began to play at local bars and clubs, eventually making the right connections to perform regularly around Oklahoma City.
Since those early beginnings, Nathan has conquered the Oklahoma market, performing every weekend at venues such as The Tumbleweed (Stillwater, OK), the Riverwind Casino (Norman, OK), and the Firelake Grand Casino (Shawnee, OK) and opening for artists such as Stoney LaRue. There have also been numerous television appearances including “Oklahoma Live” and a feature on News 9's “Road Trip to Tuttle.” After footage of Nathan was aired, news anchor and Miss America 2007, Lauren Nelson declared, "Nathan Burris is awesome! Keep an eye out for him!"
With a quickly rising career, it wasn’t long before he caught the ear of veteran producer, Curly Corwin. Packing his bags for Nashville, Nathan traveled with Curly to the legendary Music Row to record his first album. For the project, Curly selected four of Nathan’s self-penned tunes and added songs written by some of Nashville’s finest songwriters such as Scotty Emerick, Troy Jones, Wynn Varble, Donny Kees, and Paul Overstreet - all heavyweight writers with a total of over twenty #1 songs to their credit.
When speaking about country music, Nathan comments, “It speaks to me in a way that nothing else can really.” Always digging a little deeper in each song, Nathan is sharing the music he loves on stages around the country including well-known Nashville venues like the world famous Tootsie’s Orchid Lounge.
Now reaching a worldwide audience with the release of his album, Oklahoma Sunrise, Nathan is poised to set the music world on fire! Perhaps his producer, Curly Corwin, states it best, “The sun is definitely rising on Nathan Burris’ career!”
