"Nathan Duprey - Phoenix Rising"

Nathan Duprey’s debut CD opens with a simple piano, but the music does not stay so simple forever. When you hear Nathan’s powerful voice break in over the piano, you can’t help but stop. His voice inspires hope and romance.

Duprey’s voice in the opening song “One More Lie” can make any girl fall to her knees. He has a sultry smooth way of breathing out his lyrics, letting the piano draw you into the next note with him.

Phoenix Rising also has its uptempo moments, and Duprey does not hold back the true power in his voice. When Duprey lets his potential shine over the music, he can make your heart stop. The room gets filled with the hope that is being brought out by the lyrics: “I will rise like a phoenix from the fire.”

There are songs on this disc with a bit of edge for a vocalist like Duprey. “Rubberband” and “Adeline” are rougher songs, although they are no less inspirational because of it. They seem to bring out another side of Duprey and his piano. They make the piano seem darker, like experienced pianists such as Tori Amos have been able to do.

With his piano, Duprey has the potential to take over the radio in the same fashion as John Mayer. Duprey has a way of making his pain beautiful. He is still a young man too, so there is much more to come from him in the future.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: (2008)

Nathan Duprey, a singer-songwriter from Brooklyn, New York, is touring this spring in support of "Leisure Time," a 5-song acoustic follow-up EP to his 2004 independent release, "Phoenix Rising." Songs from his debut have appeared in films such as "The List," directed by Nikita Burdein, and have garnished great reviews in regional northeastern publications. Duprey has been a source of interest for major labels like RCA/J and Columbia, and is currently a featured artist on Cnet.com.

The piano is the standout instrument in Nathan Duprey's crafty, melodic indie-pop offering. It's a beautiful complement to his self-effacing, thoughtful lyrics. He creates quite the paradox with a dual persona of witty satirist and introspective navel-gazer; each side of him, however, is equally engaging.

The tenacious blare of his voice and the sound of his piano ringing as an afterthought creates a resonance that is easily felt, and easily reciprocated.

"His voice inspires hope and romance."
