Bio

Nathaniel doesn’t really want to be a rock-star. He has always had a deep passion for music, he has always played in bands, and always been part of music teams. But as for being a full time musician…”I am far too committed to my mortgage… and my marriage,” he jokes.

Music has shaped Nathaniel’s career though, for seven years he worked at a radio station in his home town, Brisbane, Australia.
“I had some good times there,” Nathaniel says.
“I learnt a lot about music, about song structure and form. As the station’s music director I would choose the songs would be played on air. I heard a huge amount of junk,” he says.
“But then occasionally, you would hear something that rose above the rest. You would be captured by an invasive hook – a song that build in intensity and then just plunges you into the chorus – I love those songs – but man, they are hard to write”.

Nathaniel started his song writing journey with his cousin, an exceedingly talented vocalist, in mind. His goal was to provide some original material for her to sing, and just maybe to inspire her to explore the art-form herself.
“She has since gone on to write some absolutely amazing songs – far better than I could ever put together,” he says.
“But at the end of the day … I was left with a bunch of original songs that I had written, with no way of expressing these. So I decided to record them myself”.
Once the home recording was complete, he showed a few of the songs to his most trusted friends, and to his surprise, they actually enjoyed them.

And while money, recognition, awards and encouragement would be nice, that’s will never be the driving motivation behind his song writing.

“Maybe this is just another hobby that takes over my life for a short season. Maybe I will lose interest in song writing soon, but I have the feeling it will always be a creative outlet for me” he says
