Nome: Nathan Peek Band. Ubicazione: Birmingham, Alabama, Usa. Etichetta: nessuna. Influenze dichiarate: shiner bock, camaros, nunchucks, chemical warfare, kittens, white snake, meatloaf’s new album, robots, lasers, robots with lasers, mcrib sandwiches, wealthy lobbyists.

La canzone del colpo di fulmine: You dont’t belong to anyone.

(We don't read italian too well, but we're pretty sure this is a positive review, even if we did get compared to Hootie - Matt Marsh)

Nathan Peek Band

(French, I can handle. I love that the writer recognized that "a band that listens to the best of William Shatner and Leonard Nimoy can't be all bad" - Matt Marsh)

Friday night, The Nathan Peek Band out of Birmingham played for a packed house at Eighth and Rail. Their sound is a unique fusion of modern southern rock revival reminiscent of Kings of Leon and Ryan Adams - particularly on songs like “Say You’ll Stay,” and “You Don’t Belong to Anybody,” which sound like unused demos for Adams’s “Cold Roses” album.

The band has a more traditionally leaning blues rock sound, sounding at times like Muddy Waters and at other times like The Stooges on tunes like “Talkin’ Ray Bradbury Blues,” and “Can’t Get it Back.”

Their set was versatile and reflected their experimentation in a handful of genres, never particularly leaving behind their own take on the southern punk blues sound, and never once abandoning an appropriate opportunity for a hook.

The band mainly performed original songs, but threw a small handful of well known and well received covers, they did great takes on a few Beatles’ tunes. Their professional, tight sound really fit in well with Eight and Rail’s low lit art gallery kind of atmosphere.

The vocal harmonies are studio quality, and despite clear skill in each respective area musically, no particular player (not even Peek himself) stole too much of the spotlight. They seemed like five guys who just enjoy playing music together.
