Crowd-pleasing showcase sets were abundant at last weekend's Western Canadian Music Alliance conference.
One came fron Nathan Tinkham, the former Ian Tyson guitarist and ex-member of the Undertakin' Daddies. He's part of a red-hot duo that won over a packed house at Calgary's Beat Niq club on Saturday. Tinkham and bassist/vocalist Keith Picot have just released a debut disc that is a satisfying combination of rockabilly and country swing-influenced tunes.
"I think this is a culmination of all my experiences and the important thing is that Keith and I are having a great time creating this hybrid," he says. "The response has been terrific everywhere we've played."
Tinkham has added his skillful solos and tasty lead lines to albums by Diamond Joe White, the Great Western Orchestra and Cindy Church.
Look for Tinkham and Picot to swing through our city early in the new year.
