Bio

NATH WILSON & THE BYRD OF PREY

At a very young age Nath had fallen in love with the old sounds of jukebox era rock n roll, swing, and early motown. This was initiated by his father, a music lover and Beatles nut, who would pass down a suitcase full old 45's and memorabilia by all the pioneers of that era. This would be his introduction to music, and the root of his fascination with songwriting.

As a young boy he was introduced to the records of Elvis Costello, Eurythmics, The Police, The Smiths, and U2, but at that time it was the stylings of the 50's era rockabilly-revival that really made him want to pick up the guitar.

Years of sweat, blood, and tears fronting the bands 'Brighton' and 'Acrobat' would help shape his craft. Acrobat's last release 'The Unbelievable Truth' earned some notable reviews, and one NXNE festival reviewer probably best described the sound as being "like Radiohead having tea with The Kinks". Nathan would also get out as a solo artist on both sides of the border and has supported the likes of Rufus Wainwright and Ed Harcourt.

On his latest offering, it's apparent Nath Wilson has gone back to crack open that old suitcase, and fused his childhood ear, with everything he's learnt along the way.

'Worldwide Feeling' is a lyrically heavy, soulful, folk blues with an undeniable call and answer chorus. 'After You' is a tango with elements of textured cinematic noire, 'Summer Rain' is a hypnotic swing, with a charging double bass, while, 'When Love Surrounds' feels like Cash and Morrisey doing rockabilly in Nancy Sinatra's boots.

No shortage of alluring instrumentation on the stage either; Nath Wilson & The Byrd of Prey consists of acoustic and electric guitars, some harp, big drums, upright bass, vintage keys, and a hook soaked violin. The result is vintage rock n roll, soulful folk, some raunchy blues, and even a little proper crooning to a good swing.
