Natural Impulse

Natural Impulse began as an outgrowth of our high school jazz band. Our influences were those jammin' funk and soul bands of the era. Bands like Tower of Power, Parliament/Funkadelic, Earth, Wind, and Fire, as well as a myriad of fusion artists.

We kept busy playing up and down the coast of California. Natural Impulse opened for The Four Tops, Eddie Money, and Billie Preston, among others. It was a great time to be a working musician!

In 1978 we self produced a vinyl 45. Being pretty inexperienced at self-promotion the 45 recieved some airplay but was used mostly as a promotional tool for gigging.

That promo 45 that we did took a trip across the Atlantic and ended up in England. The songs on the single were The Time is Right/She Went Away. For several years a recording company tried to get in touch with the band to no avail until...

Rick created a Facebook page 3 1/2 years ago. These producers managed to contact Rick and asked for permission to re-release the 45 as there had been a great deal of interest in it. Well, Rick did a lot of work to contact the band and get permission for the project to continue.

Two small pressings later this same production company continues to release other original Natural Impulse music. Currently we are working on a complilation CD for release in the summer of 2011.

Here we are in 2011 writing, arranging, and recording those songs for the upcoming CD. Wow.
