Bio

Delivering a MASSIVE revolutionary sound, NavaRatna hits it home when its comes to re-activating your mind from that “been done”, or shall I say, “been scorched” sound that you can’t seem to escape! This modern Electro-Prog-Rock band is taking this opportunity by the reigns to create a new avant-guard sound that fuses the hottest elements, from 9 different genres- (hence the name “NavaRatna”; meaning nine gems, in Sanskrit). Prog-Rock/Electronica/Funk/Trip-Hop/World/Metal/R&B/Pop/and Classical are the main components that NavaRatna fuses together so finely. NavaRatna artistically re-creates modern day, popular music by throwing out an acidic, soulful sound with a hard hitting edge. Their ethnic licks and waves add a spicy, seductive seasoning to this concoction. Influences include Garbage, No Doubt, Manu Chao, Tool, Morcheeba, Smashing Pumpkins, Lauren Hill, Queen, Sneaker Pimps, and Goyte, to list a few.

Fronting this group is Award-Winning, Singer/Songwriter/Guitarist, Mandy Ebel, heating up the stage with her diverse, entrancing vocals and performing. Killer synth player/programmer - Srihari Sidhar, from India, lays down catchy electronic rythms, while infusing some ethnic and chordal pizzaz over some PHAT ELECTRO-BASS! Guitar-Guru-Sean Folk, takes this band to another level, with his ethnic elasticity, heavy, yet funky metal guitar riffs, and dark, ambient attributes. Drummer, Nick Bryant is the backbone of this group, throwing down punchy kicks, heavy hits, and symbol fits! A live bass occassionally accompanies the group on-stage and on recordings, laying down punchy bass lines, to phatten up the electro-bass even more. Yep...NavaRatna throws a show, that you wouldn’t wanna miss... even if Grandma is making dumplings for dinner!

NavaRatna is a fairly new band on the block, with A LOT of experience. Mandy, Sean, and Srihari, all met in the Music Program at Selkirk College in Nelson, BC. All three have finished two years there, with either Music Performance Diplomas, and/or Music Engineering experience. Mandy Ebel recently received what is known as the “Fred Sherrat Award”, with its first year being presented, as a National Music Award to eleven “Outstanding Music Graduates in Canada”. MusiCan and CARAS (Canadian Association of Recording Arts and Sciences) presented such an award, which was organized by the Juno Awards Director and Co-ordinator, funded by CTV’s pioneer Fred Sherrat, and hosted by Much Music’s Tanya Kim.
The group is also planning a Cross-Canada tour for August 2009, and numerous gigs, and festivals between all of that. NavaRatna carries an open-ended sound that leaves room for your mental sensors to fill in the gaps. This MUST SEE, hip group will ALMOST satisfy every musical craving that you have, only leaving you to CRAVE coming back for more!
