Bio

Nazia is a versatile pop, jazz, and classical crossover vocalist quickly gaining a following on the Internet as well as in her adopted hometown of Washington, D.C. Her lyrical soprano voice, inspired interpretations, and ability to relate to the audience shines through when she hits the stage.

Originally from New Albany, Indiana, Nazia was an accomplished violinist and pianist before even beginning to sing in her teens. She began studying classical voice in junior high school just as intensely as she was practicing violin, leading to numerous regional and state competitions for both voice and violin throughout her secondary school years. When it came time for college, Nazia decided to commit herself to classical voice at the University of Miami's prestigious Frost School of Music.

Soon she began her professional singing career as a soprano soloist at several churches in South Florida. Nazia was a featured soloist on an album of Brahms' Neue Liebeslieder (Track 15 - "Rosen steckt mir an die Mutter," Albany Records 2002). She also toured regionally with the acclaimed choir Jubilate, performing in concerts with Marvis Martin, Clifton Davis, and Bobby McFerrin.

In addition to singing, Nazia has also found success as an actress, performing throughout Virginia, Maryland, and Washington, D.C. in commercials, voiceovers, musicals, operettas, and regional theatre. The shows have garnered reviews in The Washington Post, Potomac Stages, and Talkinbroadway.com. Her major regional credits include: 2002 Page to Stage Festival (Kennedy Center), 2003 DC Actors' Center Showcase, The Who's Tommy! (Studio Theatre), 2003 & 2004 South Asian Literary and Theatre Arts Festival, Victorian Lyric Opera Company and The Washington Savoyards.

After years of performing on stage in musicals and operettas, Nazia decided to embark on her own journey as a solo performer and recording artist when she recorded a demo in the adult contemporary style. “I Reached for You,” a song from her demo, was ranked at #46 on the Garageband.com Pop Charts (April 2006). Some listeners’ comments include: “A naturally beautiful voice”…“Excellent phrasing and well placed emotion”…“A class act”… “Great command of her voice.”

Additionally, Nazia has performed at charity events and talent competitions throughout the D.C. area. She was even invited to sing the National Anthem at a Washington Nationals home game at RFK Stadium. During November 2005, Nazia completed a five-city tour in Spain with South Florida's premiere vocal group, Jubilate. She received rousing applause from two packed venues in Barcelona and Madrid when she was featured to perform the well-known classic jazz ballad "Summertime."

In January 2007, Nazia will begin recording and producing her first album. Her ability to express emotions through her singing is as natural as breathing. From legit classical musical theatre to adult contemporary, her powerful voice and rich vocal style has a wide range from simple tenderness to sultry pop. In all, Nazia is a versatile classical crossover stylist with passionate vocals and a strong, expressive presence, making her an industry “one to watch.”
