NDMA is bringing a little bit of style, a little swag, and a little sex to Ottawa’s music scene. The DJ, rapper, and Concrete Runway host has just graced up with another slick video directed by Michael Cumming. While last time it was all about the club and the shots with “Whiskey,” this time things are a little more relaxed, a little more island-r&b flavour… but still, “she wants to dance.” The video follows the (sometimes) dreaded act of meeting the parents, when all the girl wants is to get a little freaky in the club, which the viewer naturally gets a chance to witness by the end. The track, “Daughter” shows the versatility of NDMA’s sound while always offering up a hook that the listener just can’t resist.

If you have yet to have the privilege of checking out one of NDMA’s sets around Ottawa, it must be on your to-do list while in the capital. The style will always be fresh, the beats will always be dirty and unexpected. “Daughters” give you a great taste of the twisting of genres that NDMA is capable of producing, so be sure to check out other remixes and tracks including his newest remix of Frank Ocean’s inescapable “Thinking Bout You” which would be sure to have someone like Switch jealous of the laid-back and sparkling soundscape. The music industry has begun giving Canadian producers and artists alike the attention they deserve. Emerging artist NDMA is soon to be one of the staples in this new wave of northern acts. Drawing from his musical upbringing in Brazil, in conjunction with the hip-hop and indie influences he has been able to accumulate, NDMA sets his sound apart from the droves of new artists fighting to plant their musical flags on the web. Based out of Ottawa, he connected with director Michael Cummings for his latest release, "She Wants To Dance". NDMA is Nilton de Menezes, a music producer and all-round artistic entrepreneur living in Ottawa. Having been raised in Angola and Brazil, his style has been described as a fusion of contemporary hip hop with Portuguese influences. Menezes has also been busy as a promoter on the Ottawa scene, with his most recent project being Blue Nuit, a multimedia performance art featuring 1960s style nude photography that took place at Falldown Gallery this March. This video for his latest single Whiskey was a collaboration with Michael Cumming, a local designer, motion artist and director. How do you define yourself as an artist in an industry as saturated as the one of music? For NDMA it’s simple. You do everything. Nilton De Menezes is not only a musician but a director, producer, songwriter, fashion blogger and an all around entrepreneur. Well known amongst his peers, NDMA can be seen as a collaborative artist striving to bring together a creative community through networking. And he’s doing it well. The artist relates his motivation to his Portuguese-African background that has taught him the importance of community support. His vision is one of facilitating the growth of creativity.

There is lots to look forward to with NDMA, the 505 EP is rumored to be coming soon as well as a new video scheduled to debut in November. The November release will be for the song Never Be The Same, a dramatic and yet very fun change to NDMA’s previous work. Personally, we’re holding out for the speculated shower scene.

Nilton De Menezes is NDMA; born in Angola and raised in Brazil, NDMA currently lives in Toronto and is here to premiere his self-produced song "Yours For One Night" featuring MMG's Rockie Fresh.

"I love telling stories through music videos, so for "Yours For One Night" I wanted to show how things are not always what they are perceived and the idea that love is blind,” NDMA said in an email. “These days we tend to be very judgmental. We have this idea of what perfection and happiness looks like, but it's all bullshit.”

Well, perfection and happiness is all of that damn partying in the video—plus it looks warm wherever they filmed this video and it's always freezing on the East Coast.

The video was directed by Michael Cumming, and serves as the first song from NDMA’s upcoming EP that will be released on Give N Go Sounds. - Noisey.vice.com
