Bio

Imagine being influenced by the stomp of Led Zeppelin and Rage Against the Machine, the groove of Busta Rhymes and the Roots, spliced with the occasional trip into the realms of latin, jazz, hard bop, and metal. Sound ridiculous?
It is.

The core members of Nectar have performed together since January 2004. What started off as an old school funk cover band quickly transformed into an experimental hip hop fusion project with the arrival of vocalist/saxophonist Kevin Simon. The band underwent various lineup changes until settling on the first stable incarnation of Nectar. This lineup included David Mendoza on keys, Marie Cox on drums, and Sam Weston holding down the low end.
Content at that point with being a quartet, Nectar began to not necessarily break down musical boundaries, but simply ignore them altogether. What evolved from those early days was something rarely found in music today -- a raw synthesis of groove and rock. However, the lineup was not complete.

The missing link came in the form of guitarist/ vocalist Matt Muehling, whose addition brought the band a heightened sense of musical direction, energy, and unity. With the lineup now complete, the time has come to spread this purple funk we call Nectar to the masses.
