"Vancouver Power-Pop Trio Needles//Pins Comes 'Back To The Bright'"

If you like a little dirt in your power-pop, Needles//Pins should already be on your radar. The Vancouver trio has been pumping out the punk-fueled pop jams since 2010, releasing albums and 7"s on labels that know a thing or two about scuzzy hooks (Portland's Dirt Cult, Germany's Erste Theke Tontraeger). Needles//Pins are here to announce its third album to be released on Mint Records (an early home to Neko Case and The New Pornographers and often the dearly departed Lookout! Record's Canadian partner), Good Night, Tomorrow.

"Back To The Bright" is the first single, and does a lot of what made 2014's Shamebirds work. It's a steady-paced anthem big on the soaring chorus led by Adam Solomonian's gruff voice. But here Needles//Pins puts the emphasis on the tried-and-true riffs of the heartland boogie — not too far from The Replacements vibes of previous albums, but captured by Jesse Gander at Rain City Recording (Japandroids, White Lung) with thick production where you can feel ground rumble beneath your boots. - National Public Radio (NPR)

"Needles//Pins Sign to Mint Records for New Album"

Rough and tumble Vancouver pop-punks Needles//Pins have announced they are coming back into our lives with a new album, which will see release on a new label. Titled Good Night, Tomorrow, the group's third LP will arrive in Canada on Mint Records on June 30, while Dirt Cult will handle the U.S. release.

According to a press release, "The record is a progression both musically and lyrically from their older material while still maintaining the hook-centric philosophy of their previous releases."

You can get a taste of that via the new teaser track "Back to the Bright," which you can stream below via NPR.

Good Night, Tomorrow was recorded with Jesse Gander (Japandroids, White Lung) in Vancouver at Rain City Recorders. You can see its cover art above and the tracklist down below. You can pre-order it here via Mint on vinyl, cassette and CD. - Exclaim!

Bio

Vancouver power-trash trio Needles//Pins began in 2009 as an excuse for three friends to hang out. Two LPs and a handful of 7 inch singles later the band has come a long way but are still, at their core, a few friends having fun. 2017 sees the band set to release their 3rd LP Good Night, Tomorrow on Mint Records. The band has become legendary in Vancouver for wild shows and gruff but catchy punk rock melodies. They draw from classic punk roots like the wiry pop of The Buzzcocks and the gravely anthems of Stiff Little Fingers, but have a unique West Coast approach that would align them with the catchiest of the Lookout! or Dirtnap Records catalog. Though none of the band’s songs overstay their welcome, you’ll find yourself humming one of their hooks days after seeing them play or hearing the record.

Recorded with Jesse Gander (Japandroids, White Lung) in Vancouver at Rain City Recorders, the record shows an organic growth from the power pop of their previous two albums. Guitarist and singer Adam Solomonian’s voice is gruffer from playing hundreds of shows, and you can see a richer appreciation of the group’s influences such as Jawbreaker and the Replacements at play in the song writing. Tony Dubroy’s solid bass lines and Macey Budgell’s heavy drumming combine to form a powerful rhythm section that perfectly complement Solomonian’s simple-but-pointed guitar playing.  Vancouver power-trash trio Needles//Pins began in 2009 as an excuse for three friends to hang out.
