Bio
I am a multi-instrumental performer and composer, concentrating on sitar as my primary instrument. I study sitar with the world renowned sitarist, Pundit Krishna Bhatt. With Edgar Grana, I study western music composition and theory. I also play guitar, frame drums and do Mongolian throat singing. I use these all these elements as invaluable tools in my compositions.
Currently I am helping create music for the Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Dance Company's new show, 'Blind Date', which will be performed at the Kennedy Center this fall. I have composed music for numerous other theater and dance performances including 'Rikki Tikki Tavi', with the Manhattan Children's Theater, 'Place Poem' with Dusara Dance at LaMama Theater, 'The Journey of the Mummy' with Morgon Kara at the Brooklyn Museum of Art, and Dhafuzion’s ‘Back to Creation’ at PS 122.
Soundtrack music is also a field in which I am very interested. I have composed music for the recent DVD release Babytata. I provided music for Pinjjer, a Hindi book on tape. I have also contributed music to two TBS news magazine/documentary shows, Women of the Ink and Spotlights.
My compositions are also well represented in various multi-cultural bands that I perform with. These include Mission: on Mars, a live sitar break beat group and The Sum, an acoustic world ensemble.
