Nel Oliver Biography:

Born December 17th, 1948, Nel Oliver, is an accomplished Artist. He is Author Compositor, Arranger, Engineer of the Sound, Artistic Director, Publisher and Producer. He is from BENIN REPUBLIC.

Since the age of 14 years, he integrated the " Ry-Da Jazz of the Capital ", his elder brother orchestra, as guitarist - singer. The group enlivened here and there in Benin Republic but also in the sub – region.

In 1967, Nel Oliver settled down in France. He has turned with several groups of Rythm & Blues before deciding to begin a solo career. This is how in 1973, he produced and achieved his all first 45 tours: " Let my music take you " that DECCA distributed by FIESTA. Will follow, a few two years later, a maxi 45 tours: " I'm looking for myself ".

Unsatisfied, of these firsts productions, Nel Oliver studied during five years theoretical and practice lessons to become Sound Engineer; that will lead him in many Studios in France and in England. In 1981, he became the first Engineer of the Sound of African Origin, in France. He installed his first studio: SPADE MUSIC that quickly, becomes black music crossroad in Paris. Great African and Caribbean Artists used to work there, such as Jocelyne Béroard, Manu Dibango, Papa Wemba, Abéti Massikini, M’BAMINA, Toum Black, Ipomen, Cassiri, Touré Kounda, the Zaïko group, Franco, Tim and Foti, the musicians of Kassav (Jean-Claude Naimro, Claude Vamur...), Doctor Nico, KANDA Bongo Man…

In 1981 " In the heart of the ghetto " has been produced in his Studio: SPADE MUSIC. It has been distributed by CBS Distribution Company, and in less than two weeks after, this song was Number One of all the Hit Parades in France.

He was called thereafter in 1984 at the I.A.D. of Brazzaville in Congo to achieve the last album of the M’Bamina. Then, in 1985, the O.TO.DI. of Lome (Togo) invited him to achieve Abéti Massikini’s album. The Togolese government asked him, at that time, to pursue his realizations at the O.TO.DI through Africa New Sound, a distribution company . This is how he achieved his Maxi 45 towers called " Tobolo " that helped him to tie all over again with the African public. Will follow " Edjèka Chiré " then. In the same time, Nel produced the albums of Doctor Nico, Johnny Bokelos, Mayaoulas and the Dangerous of Abéti.

In 1987, he settled down his record company which became the most skilled one in Benin and a genuine reference in the sub – region, due to the quality of works which come out from. In addition, Nel Oliver Studio, his Label of distribution : AFRICA DISTRIBUTION took the relay and allowed him to make available the products of his catalogue.

Once well settled down, NEL OLIVER started artists production, in order to make available his know-how and the experience he has got foreign. So, among the artists he produced, we can notice: Sagbohan Danialou, Prince Adé Oyé, Anafi Alao, Adjassa, Amagnon Koumagnon, Madou, Kinmagnon Agbéhounkpan, Gankpon Gbessè, Martin Hod, Abdallah, Castella AYILO, Dalina Pep’S, Anna TEKO and recently, Giro in 2005.

In 1988, he brought out the Album « Upheaval – Wadjo » which has been and is still being a great succes.

In 1989, Nel Oliver was sollicited by “Antenne 88” to take part the tour of Dailies of southwest, in France, with Basile and Carlos Band.

He actively took part to the preparing of OUIDAH 92, slave’s road. Besides, he gifted three concerts to the fesival – goers, always in 1992.

In 1998, Nel brought out another one Album : “Baby Girl”.

In 2004, took place in Cotonou during November the first edition of the Big Competition of Francophone Song of Africa (AFRIVISION). All the twelve artists competitors in contest have been placed under the Artistic Direction of Nel Oliver who recorded all of them in his Studio.

In 2005, in order to make all people sensitive to the peace, he brought out the “National Conference Hymn” in single since February 2005.

Nel Oliver is the President of the Association of Musicians and Singers of Benin (A. M. C. B.)

He is the President Founder of the Beninese Committee of Struggle against Piracy (CO. BE. CO. P.)

He is also the President Founder of the Collective of the Associations of Benin Artists (C.A.A.B) which is in fact the ancestor of the current Federation of the Associations of Benin Artists (FAABEN).

Nel Oliver is the first Vice – President of OMB (Organization of Benin Musicians); it’s a union character organization.

In 1993, Nel Oliver has been named Cultural Affairs Ambassador of URTNA (Radios and Televisions Union of Africa) for his contribution to the promotion of Africa Music throughout the world and his efforts for a best understanding between people. His song “Upheaval”, with which he was denouncing the Apartheid with words leading to the closeness and the union of people, made the tour of the world.

In 1995, his has been lifted up to the rang the Knight of the National Order B
