With its beginning as a solo project, Nels is the artistry of three individuals dedicated to doing it their own way, together. Raw and emotional, this group brings a flare to rock music. With Megan Mae on keys/computers, Thom on bass and Nels on guitar and vocals, the Nels project is unique and provocative talent that blends the depth of soul, the grit of rock, and the levity of pop.
Nels was formed by frontwoman and songwriter, Nels. She previously toured the western United States with the rock band, AcidNine, which gave her and her band the experience and exposure to land a recording contract after one year. While touring, AcidNine became a featured artist on every local station in the cities they played, as well as earning placement on shows for MTV. As a powerful force within the group, Nels' energy, vocals, and songwriting skills made for much of the band's success. AcidNine dismantled in 2003, which led Nels to pursue her own music.
Less than six months later she had a demo deal and had defeated over 300 performers for the chance to play at the world famous Apollo in New York City on the nationally syndicated program, "Showtime at the Apollo." While there, she impressed the show's producers, Depasse Entertainment Group, and was offered a management contract. In the year with them, she sold songs to Walt Disney. Wanting to explore a more ambitious project, Nels went to New York and worked with producers for 50 cent, Duran Duran and Brittany Spears.
After much studio work, Nels decided it was time to get back to the one place she loves most: the stage. With the help of the production company Fury Productions, she formed the current ensemble to help bring the show to life. With solid roots in rock, Nels fuses effortlessly with soul, pop, and acoustic performance. Currently, the project is on a journey across the nation to carve their own way and make new fans.
