Bio

Neon State has been making a name for themselves in the Northwest for their live shows and catchy songs. Their songs contain a rich blend of light hearted lyrics, shredding guitar solos, and infectious hooks. The long-awaited first full-length album has finally been released in April 2010, featuring songs that will have you moving and singing along.

Neon State’s tale began in 2007. Frigid Pullman, Washington, was home to band members Dave Montgomery (vocals/guitar) and Dan Wood (drums). Originally formed as Dave Montgomery and the Custodians, the band began to hone their sound and amassed a large catalog of original songs. After only a few months of practice, and having the cops called once for playing too loud, they were ready to carve their name into the annals of rock history playing the annual Wazzu Block Party on the campus of Washington State University.

Though the crowds were receptive in the college town of Pullman, the boys finished their schooling and relocated to the greener pastures on the west side of the Washington near Olympia and Seattle. Once settled, Dave called his best friend from high school (Grant Caldwell) to play rhythm guitar and a talented virtuoso guitarist (Bryce Sloan) for lead guitar duties. With this new line up, Neon State was complete.

Neon State’s constant live performing has solidified them as one of the finest rock bands in Southwest Washington, playing successful shows in Seattle, Portland, Olympia, the Tenino Wine and Music Festival, the Southwest Washington Fair Main Stage and winning a Battle of the Bands competition in Lewis County. After every show, Neon State has been welcomed back by every venue host and complimented on the dynamic sound they have created. One venue owner said, “It’s so nice to have a band come in here and play that doesn’t have every single song sound exactly the same.”

Neon State released their first album in April 2010 which features the fan favorites “Cry of the Wookie,” “Dungeons and Dragons,” “She Likes the Girls,” and the rock-dancer “Disco.” The songs "Cry of the Wookie,” “Dungeons and Dragons,” and “She Likes the Girls” have all received airplay on various radio stations around the Puget Sound.
