Feeling a bit camera shy

He's much more than a rapper. Devyn "NerdBoy" Swain encompasses everything you want in a emcee, wrapped in the body of a nerd donning cutting edge fashion trends. The origin of the his poetic persona and moniker "Nerdboy" dates back to August 26, 2004 at Cheyney University of Pennsylvania, America's oldest historically black college or university. A timid young freshman courageously got on stage an performed an anthem for geeks, outcasts, dorks, poindexters, and of course NERDS. After leading the crowd in the call-and-response song "Nerdboy Step," Cheyney students began referring to the geeky rapper as "Nerdboy."

Since then Nerdboy has gotten more serious about writing and performing original poems and songs at talent shows and open mics. Recently the artist wrote a song entitled "Swapping Spit" over Kesha's "Sleazy Remix." The song describes a nerd that has no problems expressing PDA with his main squeeze.

The artist also known as "The Uber Manuever" is a hybrid performer whose style is on the borderline of several different genres. His flow is more poetic and his delivery is like spoken word. Primarily, Nerdboy draws inspiration from mainstream artists like Kanye West, Common, Talib Kweli, Lupe Fiasco, and Wale.

Currently, the nerdy spitter resides in Pittsburgh but he's looking to re-locate to a city with a bigger rap scene. So check out the artistic stylings of Nerdboy and spread the word.
