"“Instant Lady" in Top 20 Downloads of 2005"

Rather brilliant...taking the spiritual and making it gleefully profane.

"A New Page of Rock Straight Out of Brooklyn!"

"These fire-headed New Yorkers have invented a wild rock'n'roll – high voltage savageness."
- Les Inrock (France)

"NERVOUS CABARET: VILLAGE VOICE"

They're more loud than nervous, and don't expect the Weimar sound. Think Tom Waits as Qawwali Gypsy King, backed by Joy Division with Captain Caveman clubbing the tympanum as a drum set. They're international rock stars in their native DUMBO but the rest of us are just beginning to catch on! - VILLAGE VOICE (Keith)

"NERVOUS CABARET: NY PRESS"

Imagine Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan singing with members of the Stray Cats and the Clash, only more intense, and you’ve got Nervous Cabaret. Elyas "KiD [SiC]" Khan’s Pakistan-trained voice belts out songs about getting drunk, falling out of love and selling out over endlessly evocative coronet by Fred Wight, fierce contrabass (Matt Morandi), drums (Brian Geltner) and now they’ve added a second drummer. You’re guaranteed to both dance and cry within half an hour. - NY PRESS

"NERVOUS CABARET: TIME OUT"

NERVOUS CABARET's dark and sensuous music is a big sweaty mass of punk, Gypsy, jazz and dub. Frontman Elyas Khan emits throaty howls and practically spits out the dense and dramatic lyrics on the band's latest CD, Ecstatic Music for Savage Souls. - TIME OUT

"What is Nervous Cabaret?"

“NEVOUS CABARET ... Music from hell sung by the devil himself (Elyas) who has convinced you through melody and music that he's your best friend...you listen and think ...'I understand what you're doing and I agree...' even though you know something, somehow is wrong....but it sounds great so you just keep listening and rockin to it. . A pleasure to work with this band...it's good shit!!!!” - Kenny Siegal (Producer)

"Nervous Cabaret the Highlight of TransMusicales 2005!"

- Groove Magazine (SWEDEN)

"I Feel Nervous... But I Don't Care!!!"

- MUSIC BOOM (ITALY)

BIO:

NERVOUS CABARET is what is meant by a tour de force. The Brooklyn/NYC based sextet boasts two drummers, intensely powerful bass rhythm, soaring horns and a wild throated open-heart on vocals. Their live performances are bloodily moving: by turns Ellington, Post punk Led Zeppelin, and vaudeville orchestra. The band’s sound crashes from violent to fragile in staggered stride, rips the heart out of the room only to offer it to the wallflower. If Trenchtown lay on the Bay of Bengal, was frequented by shipmates of Rimbaud and Conrad trafficking in amplifiers and amphetamines, Nervous Cabaret would serve as the house band in the last bar in the weirdest most lawless gin alley.

In November 2005 Nervous Cabaret signed a licensing deal with Naïve records (FR) for territories outside North America. The self-titled full-length album has since been released in France, Belgium and Italy, with release in Germany coming in spring 2007.

Nervous Cabaret has received unanimous critical acclaim throughout Europe for both the album, and for their live performances resulting in the booking of three extensive tours in the first half of 2006. Highlights include: Trans Musicales where they shared the stage with Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, Primal Scream, and Gang of Four. And, the Dour and Arezzo Wave festival stages alongside the likes of Animal Collective, Dandy Warhols, Echo and the Bunnymen, Herbaliser, Anthony & The Johnsons, Liars, LCD Soundsystem, Bell Orchestra, Two Gallants, Coco Rosie and many many more.
