The best kept secret in music

“There's not much these guys don't play. One of the widest varieties I've ever heard in a band. Blues, Country, Classic Rock, Classic Hard Rock, to current hits fresh off the radio, they play it all, and very well. …While I can't dance, I don't think my foot stopped moving the whole set of Nervous Rex's. Jim and I were even singing "Ride Sally Ride" at our table during Mustang Sally. I can't sing, but we couldn't help ourselves. Thanks guys, you capped our night out perfectly.” - John Pepping, Rock Beat July 11, 2005 - John Pepping's Rock Beat

Still working on that hot first release.

Feeling a bit camera shy

“Unique", "one-of-a-kind", and "unlike any other" are three terms that mean the same thing: Nervous Rex. The trio plays an eclectic mix rock, blues, jazz, reggae, country, and Latin music, some of which you have never heard before, some of which is quite familiar. It's all performed with that distinctive "Rex" sound. Jerry Heard lays down some funky, solid bass grooves; David James flails around recklessly on the drums; Robert Geiger is exceptionally skilled on guitar, as he tastefully and seamlessly transitions between hard electric blues and cool jazz sounds.

Nervous Rex was formed in June of 2004 by rock and jazz musicians of curiously diverse backgrounds, who accidentally formed a band while filling in for a band that had to cancel a gig. One week after formally introducing the members of the band to each other, Nervous Rex played their first gig - and to their own surprise, they were invited back!

Since then, they have never looked back, as the band has taken off faster than anyone could have expected. Within their first year, they had earned a house band gig and played at two major local festivals, Sturgis on the River and the River Rockin’ Rib Fest. In 2006, they proved that they could repeat by reprising at both festivals.

David James hails from Miami, Florida. He went to college in Illinois to study International Business Management, and after earning his MBA and going to work for a Fortune 500 multinational company, he started looking for something to do to keep him busy in his off time. He started backing other musicians at local open mic nights, and soon had met the talented guys that would eventually lead to the formation of Nervous Rex. For David, being able to play such a variety of music, drawing from many of his diverse interests, is a true dream-come-true. Plus, he is fluent in Spanish, and he has been known to sing a Spanish song or two.

With 30 years of playing under his belt, Jerry Heard brings a remarkably high degree of experience and professionalism to any ensemble that has the privilege of performing with him. Originally from Des Moines, Iowa, Jerry started playing by ear in high school, and since then has played in just about every type of band genre, from jazz to hard rock, and everything in between. Jerry says he likes playing with Nervous Rex because it gives him the opportunity to play music he’s always wanted to play, and challenges him to play the kind of music he never thought he could.

Formerly a keyboard player for several Christian projects, Robert Geiger started playing guitar after seeing a Stevie Ray Vaughan video, and “wanted to be able to do that”, not to mention he was already a guitar salesman by trade. During his musical journey, he played keyboards with the praise band at Pine Street Methodist Church for 2 years, and had just fallen into a jazz project where he could hone his guitar skills when he was introduced to Nervous Rex. Originally from White Sands, New Mexico, his goal is to continue working on his original solo project while gigging on the weekends with Nervous Rex.
