“A stunning combination of cinematic dream pop and heart wrenching melodies: warm, dark, soothing and hauntingly beautiful. Nevada Drive take audiences on a journey from the intimate and gentle to the aching and intense. A mesmerizing experience.”

Biography

Nevada Drive is a Dutch band from Amsterdam founded by singer-songwriter Christine Oele and guitarist/producer Rene Ahoud. They met each other searching for ancient audio equipment and discovered a mutual passion for haunting melodies, electronic experimentation and cinematic soundscapes. Their debut album Fernweh brought them radio and television shows, a Canadian indie release and a performance on the famous Dutch Lowlands festival.

Their second, High Resolution Blues, was released in April 2012. This time they started with acoustic instruments and experimented within the boundaries of conventional song structures. They let songs waver from small and intimate to big and orchestral, from traditional to avantgarde and from folk to ambient. It’s a striking combination of cinematic soundscapes and heart-wrenching melodies: dark, dreamlike and hauntingly beautiful.

Nevada Drive has grown into an international six-piece band, with Croatian drummer Sin Banoviç, the Swedish Henrik Holm on bass and the Dutchmen Rutger Reinders and Sander Donkers on keys and guitar. Together they create intense and intimate live shows, preferably in out of the ordinary places like former churches, movie theatres, rooftops and living rooms. This fall they will tour cinema houses in The Netherlands with their High Resolution Tour, in which they will be integrating some of the movies and images that have inspired the album into their mesmerizing live show.

Press:

“Think spheres, think dreams, think movies. Imagine a dark club where the band is playing in the background of a scene. And then suddenly draws your attention, like Nick Cave does in “Der Himmel über Berlin”. A movie that could also suit the music of Nevada Drive”

“One of my favourite Dutch releases of the last couple of years”

Lyrics

Sweet was his voice (Thetis' Lament)

Written By: Christine Oele / Rene Ahoud

On the day that he was born
I knew he’d be a hero
I knew he’d be the one
I wrapped his body up in rags and tied him to my chest
I took him to the river
I thought that it was best

And there I held him in my arms
And then dipped him in the water
To keep him safe from harm

Sweet was his voice when he told me that he would be leaving
Soft was his touch as he swore me he’d soon be back
I don’t complain I’ve had so much of him
But sweet lord is it so soon you want him back

I watched him sail into the sunset
The heavens ablaze like it was the last day
I just stood there way into the darkness
Forever calling out his name across the waves

Sweet was his voice when he told me he would be leaving
Soft was his touch as he told me he’d soon be back
Please don’t let go of me, please come on back to me baby
Please turn around and fight your cursed fate

So now I write his name in the sand
and watch the waves wash it away
and again I write it and again I write it and again..
I’m the mad woman
raging at the waves

Sweet was his voice when he told me he would be leaving
Soft was his touch as he wiped the tears from my cheek
Mother don’t cry, I’m a hero,
My name will live on with the wind

Pray

Written By: Christine Oele / Rene Ahoud

PRAY

Sweet star of seas I cannot sleep
I try but who’s to keep me
Safe from harm tonight
Sweet star of all that’s good and bright
I took on every fight
But they left me battered and bruised

Sweet star please don’t forget me
Please don’t forget my name
Oh find me and shine on me again

Sweet star of early evening skies
Forgive me all my lies
I just tried to make things right
Sweet star now that I am in need
Can I call on your grace
To have mercy on me

Sweet star please don’t forget me
Please don’t forget my name
Just find me and
And shine on me again

Pray
For all us sinners
Pray
For new beginnings
Pray
The morning comes in blazing rays of sun

Open your mouth

Written By: Christine Oele / Rene Ahoud

Open your mouth

Open your mouth
Find the right words
Speak to me
Something I’ve never heard

Oh boy, make them shine
Make them beautiful
Make them last for a while
What are you waiting for?

Don’t be ashamed
I wont hold you back
Oh, do it again
Don’t stop, not yet

Just give me a line
Give me a meaning
Give me some time
To make up for leaving
Oh baby find words
That’ll make it right

Oh baby speak up
You used to be louder than this
I will give you your space
I will keep my mouth shut

Oh baby be brave
Give me something that I can believe in
Don’t play it safe
Just blow me away

Give me a line
Give me a meaning
Give me some time
To make up for leaving
Oh baby find words
That’ll make it right

You can whisper,
You can write
You can copy
You can fight
You can do anything
But do something
Somewhere
I’ll believe whatever you say
Cause I don’t know anything anymore anyway
Baby make sense of me
Make something else of me
Find me some new place to be
Some new form to fit in
Some new dress to dance in
Some new smile to take on this day
When nothing’s the same
And nothing remains
Of what I was and what I have been

Just give me a line
Give me a meaning
Give me some time
To make up for leaving
Oh baby find words
That’ll make it right

Come Home

Written By: Christine Oele

Come Home

Take a good look over your shoulder
See what you have left behind
I was never one for waiting
But now it seems I’ve waited all this time

Waiting for your face, to come beaming back to me with that big wide grin
Waiting for you voice to tell me it was all some big mistake
Maybe if I tried, if I tried a little harder, I would have kept you
From this mission in your mind, that took your from me

Oh, when you’re done fighting your wars,
Will you come home
and lay down in my arms
Oh, I would hold you till the dawn
comes creeping through the curtains

Now you fought al off your battles
Now you’ve conquered everyone
Now I want you to return to me
You’d better be quick as lighting and bright as the sun

For all the busses and the trains, that have taken you away, I would have crashed them
I would dig up all the roads, and tear out all the tracks with my bare hands
I would have never let you go, I would have nailed shut all the doors, I would have told you, that I don’t know life without you

Oh, when you’re done fighting your wars,
Will you come home
and lay down in my arms
Oh, I would hold you till the dawn
comes creeping through the curtains
