"Niki's Weekend Word: Local Music News Wrap"

I’ll admit it: I didn’t do jack this weekend. There were some cool shows going on, but this past weekend was the first one in several months where I decided to just hang completely low for two days in a row. But the local music scene charged on, and I did keep an eye on my incoming e-mails. Hence, this week’s (and the first ever) local music news wrap!

Five more bands and a second stage added to the New Times Summer of Sound metal show
The Summer of Sound metal show is this Saturday, August 2, at Red Owl/Club Red in Tempe. In addition to the main stage inside Club Red, where headliners Godhead will cap off some killer sets by locals The Human Condition, Malakai, The AMPutatiONs, and Fracture Point, there will be a second stage inside the Red Owl. Here are the metal bands that will be performing in the Red Owl between Club Red sets:

Poena
XLP
Paranous
Nevermind Eternity
Howitzer

Admission to the show only costs $5. Visit www.myspace.com/summerofsound

Bio

Mike, Kyle and Luke met in high school. They jammed together and played Megadeth and Pantera songs in any garage they could find. It was all about Heavy Metal. Metallica, Slayer, and Guns N' Roses were always blairing in the car. They formed Nevermind Eternity in Early 2008. Guitarist Levi came to the group from Oregon in late 2008. He had long hair and had similar influences. This made it easy for them to create and play. Bass players were the hardest thing to come across, until early 2010. They recruited Cris on bass after he had left his previous band to join Nevermind Eternity. This completed the line up. Their attitude is, and has always been, "We're gonna take over the world and leave a mark everywhere we go."

"We love to play serious heavy music, but we also wanna have fun. We take life one day at a time. That's what Nevermind Eternity means. We can't live in the past or look too far into the future. Right now is our time," says Luke - Lead Guitar.
