The music is a blend of four unions of mind with various personal influences ranging from Incubus, Tool, Red Hot Chilipeppers, Black Sabbath, and Pink Floyd.

Biography

Based out of Louisville Never the man is an experimental/alternative rock band fronted by Jholeen Lesure Meeks and her hauntingly beautiful voice . Their music roots stem from a melting pot of acoustic beginnings followed by a dirty attitude.

In 2003, Never the Man formed when Jholeen moved all the way from Chandler, AZ to Louisville, KY to join a rock band living in the bluegrass and pursue her dream. Along the way, Kevin Hart joined the band. His unique creative genius and Jholeen’s writing abilities harmonized very well together. Due to creative differences the drummer and bassist at the time left the band. After many try outs Kevin ran into Robbie Hall, a talented drummer whom he had jammed with in an earlier band. His perfect timing and tasteful rhythm was just what they needed. Now they needed a bassist. Mutual friends had recommended Juan Chavolla who tried out and was a perfect fit. Juan has now brought motivation and solid bass licks to the current line-up that makes up Never the Man.

Never the Man recorded for the first time at The Barbershop Studios (also home to Dream Makers Music) in April of 05. Never the Man’s manager, Joe Carney, introduced Dream Makers Music to the band and after hearing and getting to know the band, they were overcome by their sound, great attitudes, and distinctive aura. Dream Makers was so enthused about the developing group, they brought in award winning producer and sound engineer, Jason Corsaro to help take the band to the next level. Corsaro has worked with the likes of Sound Garden, Motor Head, Madonna, Peter Gabriel, Steve Windwood, Corrosion of Conformity, Duran Duran and Mighty Mighty Bosstones. Dream Makers Music saw extreme potential in what they heard and decided to offer the band a record deal. Never the man then recorded their first album under contract “What Makes You Better” which was released in March of 07.

Never the Man appeals to a broad spectrum of entities. They cross the gap between genre’s young and old, hippie and bold. They have built a fan base with the help of Dreammakersmp3.com, myspace.com and blasting the atmosphere with their live performances.

Caught On This Ride

Written By: Kevin Hart

A shapely energy shared between us three
with two unions of mind
In vain glory there suddenly appeared
a ring in the triangle
unavailing swear I never meant to grab the reigns
leading our story to a bitter side,
Now i'm caught on this ride.
adding to the hell, walking as you fell
into this bewildered life.
analyze too deeply things are not what they seem
to be fooled by what you find
up and down that's it just try and control it and lose
some more of your mind
A graceless see-saw I go up as you fall
oh I see your distorted view from my side
Now I'm caught on this ride
I couldn't tell you no, of my see through eyes
I couldn't tell you’d know of my deceitful eyes
analyze too deeply things are not what they seem
to be fooled by what you'll
find on the other side
now I'm caught on this ride
I couldn't tell you no, of my see through eyes
I couldn't tell you no, of my deceitful eyes
now im caught on this ride

Early Bird

Written By: Kevin Hart

never been an early bird, too young to be racing
to the winning shore, just a fool floating on the sea
one eye fails one prevails to see what the third one has in view
yeah how about you do you know of what I see
a soul is never meant to be tame, trying now to lose the shame
for why I'm gone, going with some hesitation
never in the need to hurry, reality is just a worry
just a worry just a worry just a worry
well can you blame me if my thoughts stray
or cannot describe how it feels to be gone
going with some hesitation
never in the need to hurry reality is just a worry
just a worry just a worry
never been an early bird, too old to be patient
this here is for the birds, hope they sing with me
now one ear fails one prevails
to hear what the inner voice says is true yeah
how about you do you know of what it speaks
a soul is never meant to be tame, trying now to lose the shame
for why I'm gone, going with some hesitation
never in the need to hurry, reality is just a worry
just a worry just a worry just a worry

Still Alive

Written By: Jholeen Meeks, Timmy Meeks

Willing to abuse this temple for so long
knowing it's wrong
this input too much for me to take at times
why haven't i died?
so i wonder why I'm still alive
here to remind you I never died
I only stopped to look around
I'm so alive, here to remind me
I never died
see things from the other side
Took for granted all that i said was sacred to me
now i'm reaching
for you not to judge me for what i was
your so forgiving
still i wonder why Im still alive
here to remind you I never died
I only stopped to look around
I'm so alive, here to remind me
I never died
see things from the other side
dear father, mother
for you dont know what your little one has done
I learn day by day
to live with myself and everyone and i wonder why....
I'm still alive

Next Level

Written By: Kevin Hart

to live morally is good
oh I've got it now yes it's understood that
realizing nothing is fair
must have missed the sign that had read to beware
reminded by memories
hoping that they will lead me
but they're just here to lend a hand
warning me to never go this way again
hope you don't mind staying a while with me
help me see through this dark haze
my eyes are open too wide
and I can't help wondering on the side
no I can't help wondering on the side
I need to make sure that the next try
is better than the last
collection of my experience now
how far can it take one
I said how far can it take one
to the dawn of a new day
to the long awaited scene of the play
reminded by memories
hoping that they will lead me
to the dawn of a new day
to the long awaited scene of the play
onto the next level

Shallow Wake

Written By: Jholeen Meeks

In this shallow wake is where
I lay my head to rest
Nothing above or below me
just my body's edge
weightless and perfect
Is there such thing as perfect?
Warning to the weary beware,
I will break your heart in two pieces
un-enchanting voices will follow
Choices made with following actions
looking to the sky
Wondering why im stuck here in limbo
to you I will deny
weightless and perfect
Is there such thing as perfect?
Warning to the weary beware,
I will break your heart in two pieces
un-enchanting voices will follow
Un-enchanting voices will follow

Graceful Envy

Written By: Jholeen Meeks

graceful envy runs right through me
as I watch you from my post
Wishing I could be something im not,
running on the scales beneath me
mysterious chest I can open you
so many things inside left to be true
and I wonder what am I to do?
And I wonder what am I to do?
All that's left to do is run
from this mess that I have made
Take away from my hand this blade,
before I take it all away
mysterious chest I can open you
so many things inside left to be true
and I wonder what am I to do?
And I wonder what am I to do?
Please tell me what am I to do?
