New Berlin

New Berlin

Impassioned vocals, angular guitars, driving bass, and spastic but controlled drums define the sound of New Berlin. Compared at times to Sonic Youth, Joy Division, and Echo & the Bunnymen, New Berlin escapes most comparisons, creating their own unique brand of thoughtful, powerful, melodic music.

New Berlin is a 3-piece from Jacksonville, Florida, comprised of Terry Case on vocals and bass, Amy Moore on guitar and backing vocals, and Cash Carter on drums. The band came together in the winter of 2004 with a common love of indie music spanning the late 70s to early 90s, including such bands as Television, The Talking Heads, Joy Division, Sonic Youth, The Flaming Lips, Jesus Lizard, Shellac, and The Jesus and Mary Chain.

Each member of the band brings a different background to the new group, from major label experience to experience on the local and national indie levels. Together, this band aims for sonic impact through form, power, and melody, combining sharp, angular guitars with resonant bass chords and highly controlled, spasmodic drumming. Case’s vocals are at times gentle and at times screaming, but always dynamic and always powerful. The band’s lyrics, carefully crafted by all 3 members, with love, loss, longing, and literature in mind, tend to resonate with listeners, making songs that are at once potent and memorable.
