"Newberry Jam rocks!"

Newberry Jam rocks...one of our favorite bands...their performances are more like parties than concerts! NBJ is more than just a group of very talented musicians - they are consistently dedicated to putting on the best show possible. - Kirk Hollingsworth & Abbey Swanson, owner & manager of The Five Spot venue in Little Five Points, At

"New Brand of Funk"

Breathing life into an old genre of music is no small task, but Newberry Jam ushers in a new brand of funk to a new generation of listeners. - Skape, producer, Battery 5 Music Group

"Funk Everything Else"

Funk everything else, Newberry Jam brings it harder than anyone from the South since James Brown and the JBs. They're the cornerstone of [Atlanta Hip Hop Showcase] The Breaks...NBJ is the dopest thing since crack and twice as addictive. - Conspiracy, producer, The Breaks Hip Hop Showcase

Bio

The Newberry Jam project originated in the Fall of 2004 when guitarist Ian Newberry, then a student at Georgia State University's Jazz Studies program and drummer Radley Fricker held jam sessions at Ian's Home Park residence. One of NBJ's most memorable gigs is the hip hop superevent known to Atlanta as The Breaks. These performances are said by many fans to be the best, as NBJ carefully recreates a different set of classic funk breaks each time for B-boy break dance showcases. The famed event, now in its ninth run of production, saw NBJ's sound focused into dance oriented funk music; original members Ian and Radley wanted their original material to incorporate smoothly into their sets of often-sampled classics.

Since its inception, Newberry Jam has shared the stage with Dubconscious, Ike Stubblefield, Jeff Sipe, Colonel Bruce Hampton, Mike Dillon's Go-Go Circus, The Bridge, Suntoucher, Yonrico Scott, and many others. May 2008 marked their return as performers at the North Georgia-based festival RootsFest. Their full-length release is scheduled to drop in the later portion of 2008.
