"Newborn Kings making its name quickly"

By Greg Overzat
Teentime Correspondent

Although Newborn Kings may not have the recognition of Korn or Limp Bizkit, the band’s sound is altogether unique.

Making a name in the New York City club circuit, Newborn Kings have been raved as “the best live band in NYC.” So how come no one else has heard of these guys? During the summer of 2002, Newborn Kings received the chance of a lifetime as one of the opening acts on Jewel’s This Way Tour (sponsored by Soul City Café). The gig, which kicked off at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts, gave Russ Caputo, Wagner Previato, Jeff Miller and David Di Nino, the opportunity to spread their wings a little further across the United States.

“Touring with Jewel is amazing,” Caputo said. “We’re given the chance to see the country and explore musically.”

In 2000 Caputo and Previato (who were in a different band together) decided to form Newborn Kings and were soon joined by Di Nino and Miller. Backed by XGressive Management, Newborn Kings were able to produce a three-track demo CD in early 2002. The demo’s rapid diffusion has been jumpstarted by touring with other aspiring Soul city Café artists.

Newborn Kings finds its own niche in melodic rock that pop and rock fans alike can indulge in. Wont Let You Fall, Because of You and Painting it Black cause an earthquake of talent on their neatly packaged demo. “We’re working really hard since the beginning of the band to write killer songs and build a strong fan following and we believe that will take us a step closer to getting a record deal,” Previato said.

An electrifying mix of rock and originality, Newborn Kings provides all the musical components a band can envy. The demo has become an avant-garde array of their rock world. Newborn Kings will be following up this CD with a new one sometime this fall. Anytime Newborn Kings begin a song, strum a beat, or tap a drum, you’ll know it – the band’s sound is too distinct to miss.
