"Florida Today"

Take one part originality, mix in a heavy dose of creativity and a fair share of remarkable musicianship, and the result is relative newcomer New Gravity. The group, which started out with jam sessions among friends, quickly evolved into one of Brevard’s most imaginative bands, playing original music with a unique style and flair. - Mike Nunez

"The Beachside Resident"

"...our area’s most promising band deliver their renditions of original creations of art.

Three years ago the melding of musicians, producers, and performers from area bands such as Freudian Slip, Polymorphic Noodle, and even the Melbourne Community Orchestra proved to be a decision worthy of dedication and hard work. New Gravity formed out of a love for original music, its creation, and a desire to bring that originality to the masses; originality meaning not only in actual songs but in bands as well. There is no one beachside that can replicate the sound created by New Gravity, a rock and roll jamband complete with a Theremin and cello that fills our area's need for experimental music.

Band members Mike Lake on guitar and guitar synthesizer, Dave Keldsen on drums and percussion, and keyboard and Theremin player Dale McGinnis all share vocals. Along with Biff Mokarry on bass and Lisa Johnson on cello, New Gravity really create a harmony and style of music that follow in the sandals of other veteran jam bands such as Widespread Panic and the Grateful Dead. They play original music mostly written by Mike Lake acoustically that they then interpret and arrange for the full band to explore the depths of improvisation and experimentation in fusion music. If you have seen more than one show you know they don’t work off of a set list and if they happen to play a cover song (anywhere from Prince to John Prine) they don’t play it the same way twice. Each member brings obvious experience and masterful skill in each of their many instruments to bring the listener an encounter with ear and mind widening perfection. If you can see a day show, bring the kids and enjoy the afternoon watching them dance to new music. A night show is encouraged for eye widening as they bring many lights and true jam band rhythms to clubs and venues throughout our beaches. Either way be sure not to miss what is our area’s most promising band deliver their renditions of original creations of art.

"Brevard Live"

"Just when you think you've heard it all and will spend the rest of your life listening to the same licks over and over again, along comes something new. Some kind of New Gravity! It uplifts you from the regular classic rock, blues, pop, or jazz and takes you on a journey where nothing will ever be the same."

"The audience can count on a journey into a new world of music that will carry them from raucous guitar and drum-driven crescendos to mind-bending moments of Theremin-induced bliss to irresistibly groovy bass and drum dance beats to beautiful interludes of piano and cello. "

Bio

New Gravity plays original music, lightly seasoned with a constantly rotating selection of fun and familiar cover songs.

The original music, without ever sounding derivative, can at times evoke the styles of bands like Grateful Dead, Phish, and Widespread Panic, in other words, improvisational "jambands."

An evening with New Gravity is bound to cover just a little more ground than you're used to.

There's nothing like a New Gravity show. It's music for the mind.
