"Rolling Stone Hot List: Oren Yoel - Hot Producer"

Rolling Stone June 2009, pg. 70.

Oren Yoel

Once you get past the cheesy "I Love College" on Asher Roth's debut album, you notice some serious beats-particularly on the loping "Lark on My Go-Kart" and Roth's Cee-lo collabo "Be By Myself." The Elliot Gould-looking 26-year old behind these tunes is Oren Yoel, and affable Hollywood native and USC music-school grad who is suddenly a hot hip-hop producer.
Yoel hooked up with Roth via Roth's manager, Scooter Braun. "Some got hold of my beats and was around saying they were his," says Yoel. When Braun learned they were Yoel's, he flew him to Atlanta to meet Roth. "I walked in, saw this pale kid and thought, 'Hip-hop's come a long way!" says Yoel.
In a dingy L.A. studio, Yoel happily discusses DJ Premier's use of atonality. Jimmy Page's production and favorite classical composers ("Debussy's dope!"). And with his prog-rock band New Kingdom's album nearly done and Roth's second album in the works, Yoel feels moved by his own prospects. "When I met Cee-lo," he says, "he asked me for beats. I almost shed a tear!"

"Asher Roth's Asleep In The Bread Aisle, Track By Track"

The bulk of the album was produced by Oren Yoel, who was also focused on that genre-jumping philosophy. And while the phrase "there's something for everybody on this album" has become a cliché at this point, he said the best part about the listening sessions was the fact that everyone had a different favorite song.

"Lion's Roar"
This track features Busta Rhymes, as well as Oren Yoel's band, New Kingdom. Roth is a Leo, hence the title of this song, and on this cut he wanted to let the beat do its thing, instead of trying to outshine it. "Sometimes the best way to handle a record is sort of getting out of the way."

Video Interview also includes how the song "Lion's Roar" came about with the writing and inspiration of Noah King of New Kingdom. - http://www.mtv.com/news/articles/1608174/20090331/asher_roth.jhtml

"ASHER ROTH GOES BLUNT-CRUISIN’ AT THE KEY CLUB IN LA"

First and foremost, I would like to thank the Key Club for putting together an excellent show.

Secondly, let’s briefly dabble on the artists opening for Asher; New Kingdom and Bobby Raye. I came to watch Asher Roth and I got completely slapped upside my head with great performances from the two of them. Bobby Raye killed it with his acoustic set and New Kingdom’s energy was unmatched. We’d like to give a special thanks to Bobby Raye aka B.o.B. and New Kingdom. Start paying attention for those names, they will make their way into your house very soon!

"New Kingdom headlining the El Rey"

New Kingdom is headlining the El Rey on Friday, July 31. The LA based, electro-rock band has gained a strong following on the strength of their high-energy performances but recently they’ve been in the studio working on an EP (or maybe an album?). The show Friday night is one that you don’t want to miss. The band’s singer, Noah King, was featured on the recent debut album from Asher Roth which Oren Yoel produced. Recently, Oren, who has been working in the studio with Macy Gray on her upcoming album, plays keys for New Kingdom along with Joe Rausch on bass and Evan Turner on drums. Each one of these guys is extremely talented and the chemistry they have together is impressive to say the least. These guys are the real deal. - http://audioabsinthe.com/blog/tag/oren-yoel/

"A Week In The Bread Aisle: Oren Yoel"

Who is Oren Yoel and why have I never heard of him? A possible first thought when looking at the production credits for Asleep In The Bread Aisle. A name that has been on peoples minds for months, Oren is the man behind the bulk of Asher Roth’s debut album. Is it safe to say this guy is a man of mystery? Not quite, but the Google results seem to give off that kind of impression. He’s worked with other names that are familiar to illRoots, including Tunji of Inverse and the ever talented TiRon. Here however I chop it up with the man himself on influences, future projects, working with Asher, his band New Kingdom and more.

iR: Tell us a bit about New Kingdom.

OY: New Kingdom is my band out of Los Angeles! We have been playing together for about a year and half, and I think people are going to really feel our shit. We are working on our debut LP now, and you can expect a song and video to come out soon.

"Exclusive video: Asher Roth and Chester French at Gramercy Theater"

In front of a sold-out Gramercy Theater crowd—which included Hot 97’s Peter Rosenberg, and superproducer 88-Keys—Asher Paul Roth ripped through tracks from his major-label debut, Asleep in the Bread Aisle, along with a few favorites from last year’s mixtape The Greenhouse Effect. Although Roth captivated the crowd solo, the energy hit new highs when he was joined on stage by New Kingdom frontman Noah King for “Lion’s Roar” and later, Beanie Sigel, to perform the iTtunes bonus track “Perfectionist.”
