"Some Glad Morning"

We wanted to contact you and let you know that the Song of the Year
song & lyric writing contest has received the votes from the judges from
August’s round. Though your material did not place in the top 5 within it’s
respective category, your material was still quite impressive. You did make
our Honorable Mention placement as listed at:
http://www.songoftheyear.com/winners/2007/runners/0807/honm.htm

Honorable Mention means that the preliminary judges and/or the professionals
offering the critiques have found your submissions exceptional for one
reason or another. It could be the lyrics, melodies, music, etc... If Song
of the Year receives a lot of positive responses from our judges about a
song, you will be place in the Honorable Mention category. This status
indicates that a submission was found impressive by a number of the judges.

Only the first place winner from each category will move on toward the Song
of the Year yearly competition. Just because you were not the monthly winner
in August, you are still allowed to enter the same material or new material
into October's round. We had four songwriters that received Winner or
Finalist
status in August that had previously not placed in the competition from a
previous round. We maintain a different set of judges each month to make
sure that different opinions are considering the winners throughout the
year.

If you have a website and would like to promote your placement in the
contest through the internet, please visit:
http://www.songoftheyear.com/awards/examples/honorable/augustexample.htm
and fill out the information. This will allow you to promote your placement
in the song & lyric contest by referring to our site directly from your
website.

Congratulations on your great songwriting and thank you for taking part of
the Song of the Year contest.

Bio

Garland (Sonny) Jones and Karen (Jones) Hill are a father daughter duo who love to sing
Country Gospel Music. They have been singing together for ten years. They sing and minister in their home church (Lerona United Methodist Church) and other local churches and gospel related events.

Garland (Sonny) began his musical career at the age of 16, singing and playing the fiddle with a local group called the “Green Valley Boys.” They had an early morning radio program on WLOH in Princeton, WV.

Garland married Norma Jean Dunn and soon went into the Army, serving in the U.S., the Far East, and in Europe. During this time they had two children, Ronald Craig, and Karen Lynn. Garland has two granddaughters, Kari Beth and Kayla Jean.

After leaving the military, Garland returned to WV and resumed his education graduating from Concord College and taught public school for 20 years. He also pastored two local churches during this time.

Garland lost his wife, Norma Jean, to cancer in 1982. He continued to minister in the church and in 1986 formed a new trio called “The New Sounds.” They recorded their first project in August 1987 in Winston Salem NC. Jimmy Edmonds, now with Carolina Opera, was the project engineer.

In February 1988, we were invited to sign with Eddie Crook on the “Wren” label and recorded our second project in Nashville TN. We were pleased with the response from the public and received many calls and letters for tapes and open dates.

Our next project was also with Eddie Crook in Nashville, TN in 1989 and the release was on “Harvest” label. The response from this project was tremendous. We were now singing in a five state area and the ministry was really doing well.

Our next project, in 1992 was with Jimmy Edmonds in Galax, VA. The group had a new member and a little different sound but was still doing well.

Shortly after this project I lost both the lead singer and the alto singer. I continued to minister and sing until 1996 when my daughter Karen began to sing with me. We just completed a new project entitled “Yesterday, Today and Forever". We hope everyone will support our new project and that God will Bless the songs to his Glory. All of the eleven songs are original songs written by Garland with music by David Johnson.

The New Sounds have performed on the:
Nationally Acclaimed Appalachian Jubilee Music Stage/Radio/Television show in Chambersburg, PA.
On the Sid Hughes Nationally Syndicated Radio Program
At Tweetsie Railroad in Boone, NC sponsored by the “Singing News Magazine” and Classic Artist, Inc.
At Pipestem State Park Resort located in Pipestem WV, sponsored by the UMC Southern District Ministerial Conference.
In local churches in a five state area including, Ohio, Pennsylvania, North Carolina, Virginia and West Virginia.
At "Bridge Day" in Fayetteville WV with over one hundred thousand people in attendance.
Now that I have reached the three score and ten age level and because of some health problems, we don’t travel as much as we once did. But as long as God gives me the strength I will continue to write songs and minister wherever he leads me.

Garland (Sonny) Jones
I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me. Phil 4:13
