-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Jumping the lines between acoustic soul and folk rock, Bev Barnett & Greg Newlon create a place where you can relax in the comfort of the groove – and know you’re going to leave smiling and just a little more hopeful. The first thing you’ll notice is the blend of their harmonies, along with rhythmic guitar that drives a compelling tension and release. Greg’s guitar pushes – Bev’s voice pulls – together exploring life, love and the pursuit of something real

This couple combines their varied musical pasts to create a place where you can relax in the comfort of the moment- and know you’re going to leave smiling and maybe just a little more hopeful.

PROVIDING SPECIAL MUSIC FOR NEW THOUGHT COMMUNITIES

Great songs have the power to draw out a million emotions. They heal, they teach, they make us feel.

Special service music helps to create a positive and uplifting experience. We have performed our original songs in Centers for Spiritual Living, Unity and Unitarian Churches throughout California, Oregon and into Arizona and New Mexico, and we are grateful for our connection with each new community into which we are welcomed.

We cherish the opportunity to share these songs with open hearts, and we are deeply grateful for your trust in us to join you in ministry. With advance notice of your theme for the day, we can select songs that will augment your message and truly touch those in attendance at your services. We’ll work with you as much—or as little—as you desire.

“Bev & Greg really 'get' how a collaboration between musician and minister can raise the service to a much higher level.”
- Liz Mirante, Sr. Minister, Monterey Center for Spiritual Living

You can be confident that we will provide a professional, high quality music presentation. We also love to meet people who connect with our music, so we welcome the opportunity to meet and greet with members after the service. The opportunity to sell our CDs and establish relationships with fans helps support our ability to continue to create and perform uplifting music.

We also welcome the opportunity to perform an afternoon concert at your church, or in a member’s home. People all over the country are discovering how house concerts can build community — it’s a wonderful way to experience intimate, live music performances and to share new found music with friends.

Lyrics

Love Can Change the World

Written By: Bev Barnett & Greg Newlon

It all comes down to how I chose to live the truth I’ve found
Cause sometimes I can make a point, and never make a sound
Every road is neatly paved with all my best intents
But scattered on the shoulder lie the thoughtless words I’ve spent

Love can change the world
I can play a part
If only I would listen I could hear, with an open heart
with an open heart

I see the world in black and white and rarely hear the gray
I don’t take time to read the lines, and then I turn the page
When I can smell the roses, still, though snow is on the ground
Their petals falling at my feet – I finally hear the sound

Love can change the world
I can play a part
If only I would listen I could hear,
Love can change the world
I can play a part
If only I would listen I could hear, with an open heart
with an open heart
with an open heart
with an open heart

Let the Walls Come Down

Written By: Bev Barnett & Greg Newlon

brick by brick-row by row
built this fortress can't let go
it goes easy at the start
soon you cannot find your heart
it seems to me the only way to hide our fear
is to encircle everything that we hold dear

scar by scar - lie by lie
you've learned to ignore the cry
hide your eyes cover your ears
stack the stones 'til you can't hear
we work so hard to make that barrier so high
no one gets in but we're still stuck right here inside

let the walls come down X3
let the walls come down X3

heart by heart - beat by beat
never know what chance you'll meet
it will take you by surprise
walls don't have to be so high
if you let go of all the things you thought you knew
then you can see there's only one way left for you

let the walls come down X3
let the walls come down X3

The Miracle

Written By: Bev Barnett & Greg Newlon

Think of every shadow as a chance to start again
Think of every heartache as a chance to make amends
Gather all the miracles you find along the way
Put them in your pocket ‘cause one day

You’ll know when the thunder rolls, you won’t have to hide
Lightning rarely strikes you twice, it falls on either side
When you’re on the edge of knowing who you’re gonna to be
Just reach into your pocket and you’ll see

You’re the miracle

If you can find the silver lining
In the eye of a hurricane
If you can say you feel like flying
When it looks like rain

then you can…

Follow every winding path until you see the light
Follow every dream to turn the wrong back into right
No more walking sightless when you hold the hand of God
When you’re heart is open then you are

The miracle

The miracle

Now is What We Are

Written By: Bev Barnett

we’re always looking down the road that lies ahead
tomorrow’s fears are spinning ‘round inside our heads
what’ if all our thoughts could change the world instead?

we question wisdom in the grand design
join the search for any meaning we can find
trouble is that we’re all looking for a sign
when now is what we are

just know the world is spinning safely at your feet
show up and vow to be right here until you leave
no moment, past or future could ever be so sweet
‘cause now is what we are
now is what we are

(guitar break, repeat chorus)

instead of opening every door to find relief
just take the gifts that have been left here at your feet
and look with love on every stranger that you meet
‘cause now is what we are
now is what we are

It Just Flows

Written By: Bev Barnett & Greg Newlon

see the river, hear it go
over rocks through a field of snow
I know, it just flows
see the wind, hear the trees
wind that touches every leaf
i know, it just flows

it just flows
a song you’ve always known
it just flows
you’ll never sing alone
it just flows

just like the river, flowing free
out of you and into me
i know, it just flows
just like the wind, just like the leaves
we’re all branches on that same old tree
i know, it just flows

high the mountain, low the sea
living water flowing in between

hear the river, see it run
from the well out through everyone
i know, it just flows

Prayer

Written By: Bev Barnett

I feel the storm at my back
the fog and fear surround me like a veil
and I know I can not control the wind
but I can trim the sails

So toss my boat upon the sea
I know that love will rescue me
and guide me on my way back to the shore
I'll rest my body on the beach
and know I'm always within reach
of the long arm
of God

There's a Light

Written By: Bev Barnett & Greg Newlon

There's a light,down this empty road
left or right, we choose which way to go
Sometimes we wander in the darkness
on the search for where our hearts will live

But there is fear, down this empty road
and we can hear, all the doubt down in our souls
Sometimes we're standing at the crossroads
with a question only heaven knows

And every minute, every day our choices can create
a million possibilities - or just one fate
with every hesitation and with every step ahead
we can turn this madness into love instead

Cause there's a dream, down this empty road
just let it be, and the truth will all be told
we'll be caught up in a whirlwind
always knowing that the light won't end

And every minute, every day our choices can create
a million possibilities - or just one fate
with every hesitation and with every step ahead
we can turn this madness into love instead

See the light. Down this empty road
so clear and bright. Our dreams will all unfold
we'll be lifted from the shaddows
on the way to where this love can grow

There's a light... down this empty road....

Set List

Our goal is to enhance your service with special music that supports your theme and uplifts your community.

We typically draw from our original music repertoire that celebrates such themes as living in the moment, letting go, connecting with each other, being the miracle, changing the world with love and living in the light.

We can also lead congregational songs and chants and provide instrumental background music.
