The best kept secret in music
Press
The Mercy Lounge is the pop and rock 'n' roll hot spot this evening, as a triple bill highlights some spectacular stuff.
The show is a ''Mr. Lemon Presents'' thing, which means it's the brainchild of Neilson Hubbard, a guy who can apparently move from pretty, melancholy pop to concert promotion without batting an eye. After putting the show together, Hubbard will shift back to the musical realm at the Mercy Lounge, appearing on the stage with Mack Starks, ***½ Stars and Newton Dominey.
Starks, whoseElsewhere album was one of Nashville music's gems of last year, shifts from ruminative pop to grind-it-out rock, and it's all good. Newton Dominey is a power popster who sounds pleasantly reminiscent of acts such as Big Star and Lemonheads.***1/2 stars is fronted by Brian Bequette, a fine musician who some around the scene may know only as ''That huge, shaved-headed bartender guy who looks menacing but turns out to be quite nice.''
Show starts at 9 p.m. Cover charge is $7.
