"All About Jazz: "After Carnival is Brilliant""

The music of Brazil, a slice of the smooth style, a heavy dose of world rhythms and a pinch of jazz fusion provide the ingredients for the exotic and refreshing new sound captured on After Carnival, the brilliant debut from the Miami-based New World Beat. Led by vibraphonist Richard Sprince, a veteran of world music and an explorer of the Spanish Flamenco and African rhythms he has garnered over his years spent touring Europe and the globe, this group of international players delivers these diverse musical elements in a manner fitting with their vast experience. - All About Jazz

"New World Beat’s “After Carnival”"

"The performances are incredible but never over the edge or chaotic, bringing in a wide range of influences both musical and cultural...It’s the kind of music that can do no wrong...When the band turn up the heat and begins to get into fusion mode, just step back because these guys do it well from beginning to end...these guys don’t let up. A very enjoyable listen." -

"Review: New World Beat - After Carnival"

"Eleven very tuneful extended World compositions...This is rich, exotic, fusiony, infectious music. I can't decide whether to get up and samba across the floor or pour a glass of ambrosia and watch the sunset." - Folk & Acoustic Music Exchange

Musicians are like mixologists trying to come up with the ultimate cocktail. Some strive to pour the perfect martini, while others experiment with their own innovative blend of ingredients. Miami-based New World Beat has invented an original sonic cocktail, artfully combining memorable melodies and introspective harmonies with the sensibility of Brazilian jazz and world rhythms. Jazz fusion pioneer Othello Molineaux calls the group's work “exciting and refreshing…deep and passionate music.”

New World Beat is led by vibraphonist/composer Richard Sprince, who serves as the group's composer and arranger. A Boston native, Richard has been immersed in world music, rhythms and culture since early on in his career, when he played everything from Salsa and Brazilian to African music and Jazz Flamenco while on the road for years in Europe and South America. He has shared the stage with world class Latin Jazz and Fusion innovators including Ray Gomez, Jorge Pardo, Sammy Figueroa, Nestor Torres and Othello Molineaux.

The group includes some of South Florida's best sideman, including saxophonist/vocalist Greg Diaz, guitarist Leo Quintero, and drummer Carlomagno Araya, musicians who have collectively worked with dozens of top Latin music acts, like Arturo Sandoval, Ruben Blades, Nestor Torres, Ricky Martin, and many others.

With New World Beat, this international crew serves up great original compositions along with covers of Pat Metheny (including the hit “Last Train Home”), Brazilian Jazz and Fusion. New World Beat references elements of the Metheny sound along with Brazilian flavors reminiscent of Milton Nascimiento, Airto and others. “I like to imagine the project as if it were the adoptive love child of Pat, Milton and Airto, maybe getting a little love from Return to Forever, too”, Sprince muses.
