"On Citizen Zen"

Pat Daugherty, who leads the trio NYEP, knows how to unleash all aspects of the Fender Rhodes. Together with drummer Aaron Comess and bassist Tim Givens they can explore everything from badass funk to walking blues to bebop- Mike Shanley - JazzTimes

"Listen Up"

Rooted in the funk, blessed with the jazz, free to explore space and the boundless jam, this band unleashes all the possibilities. - Relix Magazine

"Not Just Another Jazz Show"

"It grooves, it moves. Its tubular man! Its like Booker T and the MG's, Phillip K Dick and Medeski, Martin, and Wood cloning. NYEP is all a jam, ham, and eggs band, Dr. Zeus I Am band. So be prepared to jump for joy when they play in your neighborhood. There's a lot happening from the newest of jam bands." - Dick Crockett 88.7 Sacramento

"New York Electric Piano arrives"

"Comess and Givens lay down simmering, bouncy grooves as well as delicate accompaniment. Daughert is an economical and very expressive soloist. He uses the various tones of the Rhodes to set the mood of the pieces: from the urban cool... to the pensive... a blistering jazz workout that features a tasty drum solo by Comess and a walking bass line by Givens. NYEP has been hogging space in my CD player. Looks like its gonna stay awhile... and that's a good thing" - All About Jazz.com

"Taking the Apple"

"This very tight band really stokes my Jones for the Fender Rhodes. Trio jazz filtered through a post-fusion sensibility, the writing is attractive, with plenty of respect for the color of the Rhodes, and a healthy feel for texture and space." - Cadence Magazine

"New Releases"

"There's a lot of good music coming out of downtown and here's another fine example of it. Smart, high octane trio that is fronted by electric piano in the classic piano trio format. This crew knows how to get down to business and play with tradition while keeping an eye on the future. Tasty work that hits hard, hits often." - Midwest Record Recap

"Review"

"Its pretty rare to find an instrumental album of this quality. From the very first track you're mesmerized. Beautiful, catchy, absolutely sexy. You couldn't do better if you went to a New York jazz club." - CDBaby.Com

"More Citizen Zen"

" From start to finish, this highly interactive trio grooves with crackling intensity and a rare degree of group think. Daugherty has crafted his savvy originals into an organic hybrid that refer back to fusion's golden age while diving headlong into the NOW." - Bill Milkowski - named 2004 writer of the year by Downbeat

"Piano seduction"

" Pat Daugherty is an imposing presence who seduces the music out of the piano" - New York Times

"Funk and Avant-Garde"

"This music communicates the immediate beauty and edgy psychedelic scene that occurs within moments in NYC- ther are funky uplifting beats mixed with the sighs of nature and the pulse of street life. - Gorillamag.com

Bio

NYEP met in the downtown club scene of New York City and has been mesmerizing audiences since their first gig in 2003. Since then they've played the Fez, the Cutting Room, Joe's Pub, the Crash Mansion, Piano's, Sin-E, and Nightingale's. Their first release was all over the radio: as the#1 add for the CMJ report of March 17th 2004, breaking into the CMJ top 20 in April of 2004 and receiving favorable reviews from the national press. Later that year they released the raucous War Oracle, an exclamation point. In 2005 they signed with Midlantic Records to produce Citizen Zen, which the JazzTimes reviewed in their February 2006 issue, " Pat Daugherty, who leads the trio, knows how to unleash all aspects of the Rhodes. Together with drummer Aaron Comess and bassist Tim Givens they can explore everything from badass funk to walking blues to bebop." DownBeat writer of the year Bill Milkowski says " the trio grooves with crackling intensity and rare degree of group think". Audiences in NYC are revved up about the band's newest unreleased material, and you can sample it in the audio files of this press kit. Happy listening.
