COMSTOCK PARK, MI - The West Michigan Whitecaps and Blue Cap Promotions have loaded Friday's Rock the Rapids concert lineup with two additional acts, as popular local groups Next II None and TP & Esco join Justn Bieber, Sean Kingston and Flo Rida in a powerful pop show. The Friday, August 14 concert presented by WSNX is day two of the Rock the Rapids series, following Thursday's Chickenfoot show with special guest Davy Knowles of Back Door Slam.

Next II None is a Grand Rapids pop group comprised of brothers Darnell and Trenton Colbert along with Michael Braden. The group has been dubbed, "The New Jackson 5," and has performed locally for several years, most recently as the opening act for Jesse McCartney at Berlin Raceway last month. - Our Sports Central/MLive.com

"Grand Rapids' Next II None also makes it on 'America's Got Talent'"

While Miss PussyKatt was wowing judges with her sparks, another local act was wowing them with song and dance.

Grand Rapids vocal-dance group Next II None also appeared on Tuesday night's "America's Got Talent" and made it through to the next round with their version of 'N Sync's "Bye, Bye, Bye."

"They were all here at the house rehearsing, and then they came upstairs to watch the show," said mom Dorothy Vance. "They went crazy watching themselves on TV. This whole thing has been such a whirlwind."

The four-member act has been a mainstay of the local entertainment scene for nearly 12 years, getting their start when they were all children. The group consists of brothers Darnell "D-Nell" Colbert, 23, and Trenton "Lil' Trent" Colbert, 16, as well as their cousins Mike Braden, 19, and "Young Dave" David White, 17.

"It was a great experience," D-Nell said of the auditions, which were taped in April in front of judges David Hasselhoff, Piers Morgan and Sharon Osbourne.

D-Nell said the group originally auditioned in Chicago, but they did not make it. They auditioned again in New York "on faith." "We just felt we had a chance," he added.

Next II None, which will appear at noon Thursday as part of Maranda's Park Parties at Berlin Raceway, will join Cassie "Miss PussyKatt" Truskowski in a couple of weeks as a few hundred performers travel to Las Vegas for callbacks. Some of those callback rounds have been taped.

Performers are under contract and not allowed to talk about the next round. About 40 entertainers will be part of the live program -- airing later this summer -- where America will vote on the eventual winner, who receives $1 million.

Bio

Their show is a mixture of old songs with new songs, dance contest, cash prize giveaways, comedy and singing all rolled up in to one spectacular concert you have to see to believe. You don't want to miss this show. Started in September of '96, out of the boys hometown of Grand Rapids, MI. The founding member D-nell was a one man group and needed a plan and some direction. Incomes his father Richard, who at the time was a part of a singing group himself, to help in forming this singing group. Through trial and error of both members and name changes, Richard gave them more direction in finding members and also came up with a name befitting the future of the group.

Around the time '97, D-nell's younger brother felt it was time for his light to shine, but little Trenton had two giant walls in front of him- his age of three and his father. Still lil' Trent watched, learned, and waited patiently for opportunity to call, and when it did little Trent could not be denied. The group had a show, and three of the members couldn't make it, so Richard finally gave in to requests to give Trenton a chance in the group. Trenton amazed everyone including his father and solidified his position in the group.

Through the number of shows that were developing, and the groups stage show demands, it became more frustrating trying to find group members that could be dedicated to the hard work the journey entailed. Then came Michael Braden, who was brought to an audition by a family member. MIC blew the group away with his singing and harmonies, and was offered a place in the group right then and there.

The group has done a number of shows in cities in Michigan, New York, N. Carolina, Ohio, Illinois, Florida and Georgia. They have had 5 national television appearances, which include MTV, BET and NBC. They have won numerous awards, and because of their diverse appeal, they have shared the stage with such acts as Jordan Knight, Flo-Rida, Aaron Carter, Adina Howard, Jesse McCartney, Sean Kingston, Justin Beiber, Snoop Dogg, Public Enemy and many others.

Through a few member changes along the way, the group finally found the sound and direction that works best for them. And after 13 years, Next II None continues working hard to stay:
EXCITING...EXPLOSIVE...BREATHTAKING...INNOVATIVE...FRESH
Because they rely on their vocals and showmanship to keep them striving to be... NEXT II NONE
