NGAIIRE (pron like Diary but with an 'N')

Ngaiire's forthcoming album Blastoma is one I've been waiting seemingly forever for. Since hearing 2013's Lamentations, I fell back in love with Ngaiire's soulful vocals, her obvious diverse musical palette that she works from and the creative relationships she's developed since. The talented songwriter has continued to work hard on her craft and in new single "Once", Ngaiire has proven once again that her music is one that definitely needs to be on your radar.
Co-written with Paul Mac and Megan Washington, Ngaiire's new single encompasses that ferocious energy and endearing style of vocal delivery that has won Ngaiire fans all over the country in the last few years. You can imagine how this one is to be delivered live (if you've been able to see her perform before) and frankly, this little nugget from Blastoma has made us all the more excited to see what this lady has in store for future live shows once the album drops. - AU REVIEW

Last November, my favourite Australian rapper Urthboy put on a really cool show at Sydney’s The Basement where he created a ‘mixtape’ of live performances to tell the story of a wild trip overseas. Joyride got up for a sing, Jane Tyrrell was there of course, as well as Ev Jones and a singer I wasn’t aware of – NGAIIRE.

Out came a huge grin, a mane of curly and luscious hair and then, we were introduced to a voice that was the absolute pinnacle of performance that evening. I’ve kept a close eye on her since – and am excited to show you her first proper single in 18 months.

Once is the first single we get to hear from her forthcoming album Blastoma – which is an amazing album name – and is a minimalist pop piece that floats between a sense of unease and saccharine romantic balladry so naturally. The single’s a co-write with Megan Washington and Paul Mac, who’s influences are both very present.

Bursting onto the scene with her 2013 album, Lamentations, Australian-via-New Zealand-via Papua New Guinea artist NGAIIRE has lived many lives in her 20 somethings years. She’s already played at Glastonbury and has supported the likes of Alicia Keys and John Legend. Now, she returns once again with bigger, better and smoother than ever with her new track ‘Once’.

Taken from her forthcoming second album, Blastoma, it doesn’t take long to fall in love with everything about NGAIIRE. From her impeccable soulful vocals, her intimate yet optimistic lyrics or the way her dynamic voice perfectly suits the chilled R&B grooves laid down by producers Paul Mac – yeah, seriously – and Jack Grace, it’s not hard to see why there is a big buzz around her.



Co-written by Mac and Megan Washington, the hypnotic track is like an upbeat dream – hazy, blushing and rich in textures. The track moves slowly, never fully breaking even when NGAIIRE‘s voice soars high above the bed of warm synths and light beats. Slowly gathering momentum, the dynamic capability of NGAIIRE even when the track remains so laid back is what really gets your attention.

Her incredible collaborations with Sydneysider Kilter have left us scrambling for more, and finally the Papua New Guinean-born Ngaiire has given us all something to tide over the hunger.

Her new single Once is an exotic and vibrant display of the young artist’s sultry and dynamic singing abilities, combining her echoing vocals with an understated beat, before culminating in a soft, melancholic refrain.It’s a song about taking risks that turn into revelations; an ecncompassing tale of her life thus far.

Co-written by acclaimed Australian artists Megan Washington and Paul Mac, Ngaiire’s musical chops get the full workout they need to maximise her allure on this track.

Once is the first single from Ngaiire’s sophomore album Blastoma, her first offering since her debut Lamentations. With a colourful past that includes moving from PNG to New Zealand to Australia, a stint at the Conservatorium of Music and on Australian idol, Ngaiire is coming into her own as an incredible singer and performer.

Hell, she’s even done shows at Glastonbury with Alicia Keys and John Legend and created crazy sound installations for David Walsh’s MONA FOMA. So needless to say, she’s one to watch. - Howl and Echoes

No stranger to the Australian music landscape, she's been making top-quality tunes for a number of years now, culminating in the release of her future-soul debut Lamentations in 2013. In 2015 it's time to return with a new LP, Blastoma, and we're beyond stoked to premiere the supremely chill first cut - Once. NGAIIRE

NGAIIRE is the next big thing, her name means red flower in Maori and her voice means red hot in English. Her new single "Once" is seriously like some wild burning sensation of a melody; it cuts right through like hot steel and leaves you wondering where she has been all your life. The thing about that is, she has been here a while now, right under our musical noises for at least 5 years or more. She’s from Sydney and she is straight up going from Sydney all over the world, id put my house on it. Anyway check her new video for “Once” (Left).
